Drone shots of the beach build. The turtle wall is up to keep the nesting turtles from wandering onto the property (there is a rip rap wall between the beach and the ocean, so no danger of that on this job, even without the wall!) The Foundation guys started putting in the pilons yesterday. Because the foundation of a home is the most important part, we make sure to use quality crews. These are auger cast pilons that will be drilled into the ground.
Before we even start the job we have engineers collect core samples from the site. They analyze what is in the ground and take that information to determine what is required to hold the pressure and the weight of the home that the owners want to build. For this house engineering requires 64 pilons, 21’ into the ground, with a diameter of 14”. A hole is drilled, prebuilt rebar cages are dropped into the hole, and concrete is pumped in, to create an underground pilon foundation on which to build the house
While the pilons are being put in, an engineer is on site to collect concrete samples from the pilons. They will take these samples and let them harden, analyze their strength and load capacity and watch them cure. After roughly 28 days they will strength test the samples and let us know they are prepared to hold the weight of the home. At that time, we can continue on with the build.
While it may appear that the project is just “sitting”, it is all a part of the process to ensure that this foundation is strong enough to hold up the beautiful home that will be placed on it, and all of the memories that will be created inside these amazing walls.
