Before πŸ‘‰πŸ» After

She loves her dogs. Her dogs love the backyard. And the backyard? The backyard was paying for it. A constant dust bowl in dry weather, a mud bowl when it rained, and the view from her back window was the first thing she saw every morning. It was time to fix that!

The goal was two things at once: create a view worth looking at from inside the house, and solve the practical chaos of a high-traffic dog yard. We did both.

1,350 sq ft of turf, built for exactly this, replaced the dirt and gave the dogs a surface that stays clean, drains well, and actually looks beautiful year-round. Running alongside it is a 16’ circular fire pit patio in Belgard Dublin Cobble pavers in Fossil Beige with a Bourbon London Cobble edge, connected by walkways on either side. The circle layout gives the whole space a natural focal point that draws your eye straight from the back window.

The fire pit itself is built around a Breeo X30 insert, one of the best burn experiences you can get. Wrapping halfway around the circle is a Sienna Ledgestone seating wall with natural cleft bluestone caps, and behind it, a bench wall with a full-color bluestone back cut and installed at an angle. It’s the kind of detail you notice without being able to put your finger on why it looks so good. Tucked behind the whole structure is a support wall capturing a 2’ grade change, keeping everything level and solid for the long haul.

4,000 lbs of boulders were placed throughout the landscape, with emerald green arborvitae, camellias, viburnum, and gold dust aucuba filling in around them β€” enough to add shade, privacy, and life to the edges of the space.

The view from that back window? Completely transformed. Investment: ~$60,000.

If your yard is working against you, let’s make it work for you. πŸ‘‡πŸ»

BEFORE πŸ‘‰πŸ»
This home has a view that stops you in your tracks. The water right out back is stunning, and the old patio just wasn’t keeping up. It was worn out, too small, and couldn’t hold the kind of outdoor life these homeowners wanted to live. The view deserved better. So did they.

AFTER πŸ‘‰πŸ»
We demoed the old raised brick patio and built something that finally matches what’s beyond it β€” 890 sq ft of paver patio across two levels, designed around the way this family actually lives and entertains.

Step out the back door and you’re on the upper landing, spacious enough for a dining table, two loungers, and an outdoor couch. It’s the kind of space where someone could spend an entire morning without moving. Three steps down and the lower patio opens up with its own set of destinations: a built-in gas fire pit with a curved Techo-Bloc Mini-Creta seating wall in Shale Grey, a full 10’ outdoor kitchen with granite counters, built-in appliances, and under-counter storage, and a dining table right alongside it. Everyone’s together, but there’s enough room for everyone to find their spot.

The paver work is a mix of Techo-Bloc Blu60 in Shale Grey laid in French pattern for the main area, with Techo-Bloc Borealis 5” planks in Smoked Pine laid at 45 degrees as an accent, a detail that adds warmth and keeps the design from feeling too uniform. An Onyx Grey 6x13 border runs the perimeter and ties everything together. A 70’ paver walkway connects the patio to the front yard.

New flower beds wrap the patio with lace leaf maple, little lime hydrangeas, arborvitae, Russian sage, drift roses, and more β€” and cap lights and path lights make the whole space feel just as good after dark as it does at golden hour.

This is what it looks like when an outdoor space finally lives up to its surroundings. πŸ™ŒπŸΌ
