I’m so excited to announce that this past week I celebrated my win in LA for the 🌟Johnny Depp The People’s Artist competition🎉 (over 180,000 entrants nationally and Canada) which raised almost $7 million for Art of Elysium - an artist organization built on the idea that through service, art becomes a catalyst for social change. “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall…”

This painting was inspired by an art competition. While creating it, I felt as though I was in a moment of waiting—hoping for the opportunity to move forward as an artist, dreaming and anticipating winning.

The boat is a symbol of where I was and where I want to go. Its swirling reflection captures the excitement, uncertainty, self-doubt and hope that often accompanies my creative journey.

The title, inspired by the familiar fairy tale, “Mirror,mirror on the wall…”, reflects the uncertainty that many artists wonder, including myself—especially during competitions: Will my work reflect well in the art world? Will I rise to be at the top?

In the most recent competition, I did. And it’s utterly exhilarating!

A blast from the past...(before I took a break for decades) started painting in my late teens. To teach myself and understand techniques, I studied how some of the masters painted painted…

“Irises on the Field”

A vibrant study in rhythm and color, this painting is my contemporary reproduction of Vincent van Gogh’s Irises in the Field. I was drawn to the sweeping, blade-like leaves and the contrast of deep indigo blooms against the warm, terracotta earth, with a single pale iris holding its own quiet light. Working in thick, expressive strokes, I followed Van Gogh’s energetic mark-making while allowing my own hand to guide the movement and layering of color. The result is both homage and reinterpretation—a chance to step into his garden for a moment and feel the same restless, joyful intensity in paint.
