Joseph Simhon recently went to looking for a concrete-to-concrete bonding agent. He needed a product intended to bond new or fresh concrete to an existing hardened concrete surface.

Joe was looking for the Lanco concrete to concrete bonding agent but they only had the concrete to stucco in 2 versions. When he asked the Home Depot associate they recommended the Rapid Set Concrete Leveler Primer. According to its manufacturer, this primer is intended only for floor or horizontal surface.

At the end of this frustrating situation Joe realized that there was no product available on the shelf for a horizontal concrete to concrete bonding.

Home Depot you must do better. No wonder why we tend to have bad workmanship in Florida, the contractors cannot effectively follow the specs.

Your seawall protects more than the edge of your property. It helps protect your shoreline, your waterfront home, and your investment.

Cracks, erosion, soil loss, corrosion, settlement, and leaning may indicate that your seawall needs professional attention. Some concerns can be difficult to recognize until the damage becomes more extensive and costly to address.

A professional seawall inspection can help you better understand its current condition and determine the appropriate next steps.

NOHMIS provides seawall inspections for homeowners, property buyers, HOAs, and property managers throughout Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties.

Do you own a waterfront property, or know someone who does? Visit nohmis.com to schedule a seawall inspection.

Progress continues at Riverstone Plaza.

Our team recently visited the site to review the roof framing and roof sheathing installation, helping verify that the structural design is being implemented as intended before construction moves forward.

These site visits are an important part of the engineering process, allowing us to observe progress, answer technical questions, and help maintain quality throughout construction.

We're excited to see another milestone reached and look forward to sharing more updates as the project continues.

Every great stadium has a story beyond the game.

As the FIFA World Cup 2026 Final approaches, we took a closer look at some of the engineering behind MetLife Stadium. From structural expansion joints and long-span steel framing to seating modifications and sustainability initiatives, every detail reflects years of planning, collaboration, and technical expertise.

We'd like to acknowledge Thornton Tomasetti for sharing information about the stadium's structural engineering and EMSEAL for providing an in-depth look at the stadium's expansion joint systems. Their technical resources offer a fascinating perspective on the engineering behind one of America's most iconic sports venues.

At NOHMIS, we enjoy highlighting the engineering and design that often go unnoticed but play a critical role in creating safe, functional, and enduring structures.

Engineering perspective on the recent structural failure involving a high-rise conversion project in Midtown Manhattan at the former Pfizer building.

The recent news of a high-rise building showing signs of structural distress in Midtown Manhattan has raised many questions about how buildings are monitored during major renovations.

While the official investigation is still underway, this event reminds us of something we emphasize every day as engineers: structural safety depends on careful planning, continuous inspections, and ongoing monitoring throughout construction, and not just during the design phase.

Rather than speculate about the cause, we wanted to share an educational perspective on:
• What structural buckling means
• Why adaptive reuse projects require extra engineering attention
• How engineers respond when warning signs appear
• Why early intervention can prevent much larger problems

We hope this helps property owners, developers, contractors, and anyone interested in the built environment better understand the engineering behind these situations.
