We gave this customer a quote to take this tree down about a week before it fell.

They said they wanted to wait a little while.

One week later, at 3 in the morning, the customer heard a loud crack outside. They looked out and the tree was leaning toward the house. They called us right away.

When we got there, we saw the crack ourselves. It went deep into the trunk. The tree was already rotten on the inside, and now it was cracked too. That's a bad combination. A tree like that can go down with no warning at all, and this one was leaning the wrong way, right over their roof.

Because of the crack, we couldn't just cut it down the normal way. A normal cut could have made it snap and fall wrong. So instead, we used ratchet straps to hold the tree tight and keep it from moving. Then we used a crane to lift each piece straight up and out, one at a time, so nothing had a chance to fall on the house.

Once it was down, we cut into the trunk and saw why it cracked in the first place. The whole center was hollow and soft. From the outside, this tree looked healthy. Green leaves, solid bark, nothing that would make a normal person worried. But the inside was already gone.

This is the part people don't know: a tree can look totally fine and still be one bad wind storm away from falling on your house, your car, or your family. The outside doesn't tell you what's happening inside. That's what we're trained to check for.
