🌟 October Employee of the Month: Roger! 🌟

Please join us in congratulating Roger on being named Messina Concrete's October Employee of the Month!
Roger is one of the hardest-working people to ever set foot in the Plymouth plant. He is always on time, extremely dependable, and never likes to sit. If there's work to be done, Roger is ready to jump in and help. In fact, around the plant, "Load him!" has become a common phrase because Roger is always willing to stay busy and go the extra mile.
Roger pays close attention to instruction, is eager to learn, and enjoys taking on challenging technical pours. He has an infectious positive can-do attitude and loves to make people smile and laugh. He is a very skilled driver and an integral part of the Messina Team!
And here's something you may not know about Roger... he's an amazing dancer! Just ask him—he'll be happy to show you. 💃🕺
Congratulations, Roger, and thank you for everything you do. We appreciate your hard work, dedication, and the positive energy you bring to the team every day!

🎃 Keep your eyes peeled in Downtown Plymouth! 🎃

We're proud to have been selected to put up a scarecrow in Kellogg Park as part of this year's community display, and it will be standing tall through Halloween!

At Messina Concrete, we're grateful for opportunities like this to be part of the communities we serve. Supporting local events and helping make Plymouth a fun place to visit during the fall season is something we're always excited to be a part of.

If you're out enjoying the park, be sure to stop by, snap a selfie with our scarecrow- he's right across from the Penn Theatre, and tag us on Instagram or send us your photos. We'd love to see them and share some of our favorites!

Thank you to everyone who helps make our community such a special place. We hope our scarecrow brings a few smiles along the way. 🍂👻

Big things start below the surface. 🚧

We're proud to be partnering with B&B Concrete Placement on the foundation work for a new Ford Motor Company warehouse scheduled to rise this winter. Our team is supplying the concrete footers that will help support this major project from the ground up.

Every large-scale structure begins with a solid foundation, and we're honored to play a role in building the infrastructure that keeps Michigan moving forward.

Thank you to B&B for the partnership and to our team for delivering quality concrete, one pour at a time.

Ever wonder what truly stands between a structure that lasts for generations and one that starts crumbling after a few rough seasons? It all comes down to rigorous testing before the concrete is ever poured into place.
Whether it’s the foundation beneath a home, an airport runway, a road, or a bridge, concrete might look like simple gray mud but it’s an exact, permanent chemical reaction. Once it sets, there is no going back. That’s why the Quality Control team tests every critical variable in real time:
Measuring the slump dials in workability and guards against excess water, which dilutes the cement paste and causes severe shrinkage cracks and surface failure down the road.
Testing air content ensures billions of microscopic bubbles are locked into the mix, giving winter moisture room to freeze and expand without blowing the concrete apart from the inside out.
Finally, casting break cylinders provide scientific proof when crushed in a lab press at 7 and 28 days that the material hit the exact strength needed to safely support heavy loads.
Providing exceptional concrete doesn’t happen by accident. Here at Messina everyone from our plant managers, batch and dispatch teams to our QC technicians and drivers play a crucial role in creating a quality product from start to finish!

Stop letting your fresh concrete “just dry”! ✋🛑

A lot of people think concrete gets hard by drying, but it’s actually the opposite—concrete doesn’t dry, it cures.

When you see a crew finish a driveway and immediately start spraying it down, they aren’t cleaning up. They’re putting down a liquid curing compound. It acts like a protective seal, trapping moisture inside so the concrete can finish curing and gain full strength.

Without that moisture, you end up with a weak, chalky surface that rubs off under traffic, ugly spiderweb cracks from drying too fast, and a slab that chips and flakes the first time winter freeze and deicing salts hit it.

In other words, proper curing can make the difference between concrete that lasts a few years and concrete that performs for decades.

We can deliver a quality mix design, but what happens after placement is just as important. Good curing practices help ensure your investment stands the test of time.

Have questions about the right concrete mix or curing methods for your next project? Give our dispatch team a call. We’re here to help. 👷‍♂️🚚🏗️

🎉Congratulations to our September Employee of the Month, Jacob “Fish” Zmijewski!🎉👏

Fish has earned this recognition through his dedication, flexibility, and willingness to take on any challenge that comes his way. As a mixer driver, he has consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and a team-first attitude, always stepping up wherever he is needed. Recently, Fish has been serving as Casper's understudy in the loader, embracing the opportunity with the same enthusiasm and commitment that have made him such a valuable member of the team.

Jacob got his nickname “Fish” from his days of playing goalie in High School for the hockey team. He is becoming a fixture at the Flat Rock Plant with all his hard work running loader, being a great mixer driver, chipping out trucks, and doing whatever is necessary to keep the operation running smoothly. Always brings a calmness to work, and a can-do attitude!

Outside of work, Fish enjoys playing golf, deer hunting, and his motorcycle.

Thank you, Fish, for your hard work, adaptability, and dedication to Messina Concrete. We appreciate everything you do and look forward to watching you continue to grow.

Things don’t always go as planned! 🌧️
Yesterday, Mother Nature decided to join us while we were pouring a house footing for our longtime client, Michael Pomponio. The rain came down HARD, but luckily, we are not made of sugar and we’re not afraid to get wet! 💪☔️

But the day turned into more than just getting the job done.

One of our amazing drivers came across a man stranded on the expressway after his car got stuck in the flooding. Without hesitation, he stopped to help get him to safety. That’s the kind of team we’re proud to have.

At Messina, it’s about more than concrete. It’s about showing up, helping, and looking out for the people in our community, rain or shine.

Messina is for the community. ❤️
