It’s amazing what a leak can lead to! For years water was getting in this chimney system. It led to turning 2x4s and sheathing into virtually nothing in areas. We were even able to see the bottom of the fireplace from the basement because the subfloor rotted out. We also found multiple installation errors that were fire hazards.

This chimney was rebuilt from the ground up. From new framing and stone to a new stainless steel chase cover, we did it all. The only things reused were the siding and mantel.

In the basement we installed a Ventis HES240 wood stove and the main level we installed a high efficiency fireplace in the Osburn Stratford II. They will be warm this winter!

Our inspection found this fireplace didn’t meet clearance to combustible materials requirements. This means heat can transfer to unintended areas and is a potential fire hazard.

During demo of the firebox we uncovered more issues when we found drywall imbedded in the masonry and could even see the 2x4 studs from the wall behind the fireplace!

The solution to these issues was simple. We installed an Ahren Fire retro-fit system. This allows us to overcome many clearance issues without rebuilding the whole chimney.

The customer wanted a custom look and asked if we could make it black. We really like how this turned out!

This chimney was falling apart from water getting in, freezing, and popping the face of the brick off. During removal there was even water flowing out of the bricks!

We removed the brick down to the roof and built it back up. We also are applying a water proofing product to prevent this from happening again.

The pictures don’t do this one justice!

We had everything thrown at us on this project. During our inspection we found the original fireplace had multiple issues. That’s why we installed this Prior Fire XL which allowed us to keep this wood fireplace wood burning.

Our client had a vision for the finished project. She wanted it to look like it had been there for 100 years, just like the house. We even had a custom steel mantel made.

We resized the firebox, extended the chimney height, added a stainless steel liner, and poured a new concrete crown to protect the top.
