Keeping the ‘Breeding herd” at bay starts now.

I would say the mole problem is under control now. Was looking for 6 today, only got 3. Will be back this weekend to check them again and then will be back first thing in the spring. The goal is to not have moles reproducing on this course, and it takes time, but that's what Iowa Mole and Gopher Control does.
Prime Time customers are serviced first. We can put you on the list for spring and will get to you after we get Prime Time customers done.

Dang groundhogs…

Dang groundhogs…

A groundhog in early fall eats like the food is about to run out. For it, that's true — in a couple of weeks it will stop eating, drop underground, and not take another bite for six months.

The woodchuck is one of the few animals that hibernates for real. Not the light, on-and-off doze of a chipmunk, but a full, profound shutdown.

So in these weeks it's in a frenzy, packing on all the fat it can, because that fat is the food it will have all winter. What it eats in September, it's eating for October through March at once.

Then it goes under, and its body does something that sounds impossible.

Its heart slows from a normal beat down to a few a minute. Its breathing nearly stops. Its body temperature falls until it's barely above freezing.

For months it lies in a sealed chamber, cold and still, burning its fat so slowly that heartbeats come minutes apart. By spring it has spent a big share of its own body.

🌿 This isn't a greedy pest wrecking a lawn. It's an animal saying a long goodbye to food and light, storing a whole winter in its own body before it flickers down to almost nothing.

It's not overeating. It's carrying six months of life inside itself, one mouthful at a time. 🍂

👃⚡️ THE FASTEST EATER ON EARTH...

Blink. That took you about 300 milliseconds. In that time, the star-nosed mole already finished its meal. 😱

This little wetland mole can identify AND swallow food in as little as 120 MILLISECONDS — the fastest measured eating speed of any mammal on the planet. ⚡️

Its secret is that wild pink star on its face: 22 fleshy tentacles packed with 25,000 touch sensors called Eimer's organs, wired to the brain through roughly 100,000 nerve fibres. It's not really a nose — it's a TOUCH SUPERCOMPUTER. 🧠👃

The mole is functionally blind and hunts in total darkness, sweeping that star across the mud ten times a second. And if that wasn't enough — it can SMELL UNDERWATER by blowing bubbles out and sucking them back in. No other mammal was thought to be able to do that. 🫧🤯

Tag someone who eats THIS fast at dinner! 👇😂
