In my opinion, the keys to start a small business and make it successful are as follows .....
**honesty
**integrity
**humbleness
**communication
**networking
**a supportive family at home
** when I made this leap four years ago, I told myself no matter how big I became, no matter how busy I became ,no matter what I was gonna stick to all of these core values. I don't brag on myself often, but both myself and my wife have stuck to these core values. Anyone with determination can run a successful small business.
** a few shout-outs, and no particular order... my wife is my biggest supporter. I always remind her that this isn't my company. It is our company. There's no I in team. My children, I went to sacrifice time away from them at times I don't ever miss their events, but sometimes I'm not home near as much as I'd like to in the evenings or weekends and if I am, I'm busy with bookwork I always make time for them, but not as much as I would like it will be worth it in the long run as hard as that is of a pill to swallow. Thank you you too the handful of friends who have been supportive from day one and believed in me. My parents, my in-laws, my siblings all of you have believed in me and supported me.
** networking is huge. I went into this with the mindset that I wasn't going to try to compete against other fellow companies doing the same type of work I am. There's a handful of us companies locally that have all kind of had a mutual agreement to assist each other and time of need, and that has been a huge asset for all of us. I've connected with many different business owners of all walks of lives and I'm constantly having customers saying hey Bobby, do you know anybody that does this? It's all about networking. There are so many different routes to take when it comes to networking and making connections the ball rolls both ways. I have formed many great professional relationships. Real estate agents are a huge assett for a lawncare and landscaping company. Not only will they continue to send you work if you stick to your core values they all talk within and not just within the same company one agent from company A may ask another agent from company B. "Hey, who do you recommend for this" I have picked up a lot of work in that aspect. And I returned the favor I constantly recommend them. I don't just have one real estate agent that I recommend. I have a small handful. They're all great people. They're all honest and have the same core values as I do just have a different job title.
