Water leaks don’t wait for business hours. The fastest way to limit damage is knowing exactly where your home’s main water shut-off valve is before you ever need it.
Every residential home should have a main shut-off valve located in the flower bed. It should be a hand operated, quarter-turn ball valve that requires no key or tools: you can turn it off and on by hand.
Find and identify it now. Many valves are covered by mulch, soil, or overgrowth. Expose the valve, make sure it operates properly, and ensure every adult in your household knows where it is.
Many homeowners think access to the water meter is enough. But during a middle of the night or early morning emergency, most people don’t have the special tool or knowledge needed to turn off the meter quickly enough to prevent serious damage. Many meter valves are extremely difficult to turn off even for the professionals and a lot won't turn off at all, we end up having the home owners contact the city for a replacement.
If your home does not have an accessible emergency shutoff valve in the flower bed, contact us to have one installed as soon as possible.
