Is Marvel suffering from software envy? 🍿🎬
Ever since Avengers: Endgame, it feels like Marvel Studios has been constantly "overcharging the narrative." Instead of letting massive moments land or delivering standalone stories, every single Disney+ show and spin-off is treated like a mandatory setup for the next big project. Between stakes inflation, forced geopolitical agendas, and homework fatigue, a lot of fans are simply burned out.
It made me think about a conversation we recently had in a mastermind with Mike Andes (founder of Augusta Lawn Care) (www.augustalawncareservices.com/franchise)
When Mike launched HomeWorks—the operating software designed for the Green Industry and home service businesses—he built it on a core principle: listen to the people who are actually in the trenches with you. Software built by engaging core followers and real operators will always beat software designed around generic Facebook ad trends.
Marvel could take a massive page out of Mike’s playbook for their upcoming slate:
• Listen to your core user base: Instead of hiring writers who ignore the source material to push modern social and political agendas, tap into creators who actually know and respect classic comic book lore.
• Focus on core value over endless bloat: Just like good software needs to solve operational problems without breaking your business, a great movie needs to tell a compelling story without forcing viewers to watch 50 hours of prerequisite content.
• Build from genuine feedback: You get a better product when you build for the people who care most about the brand, rather than trying to satisfy a mass-market algorithm.
If Marvel wants to fix its narrative fatigue before the next big ensemble hit, they need to stop over-engineering the universe and start listening to their real "super-users."
What do you think? Has Marvel lost its way?
