When you're building a four seasons room that's going to be a fully conditioned living space, the insulation isn't optional. It's the whole game.
On this addition in the Gray Hawk neighborhood of Plainfield, we partnered with Go Green Insulation Inc. to fill every wall cavity with closed cell spray foam. Closed cell gives you superior air sealing, moisture resistance, and thermal performance compared to standard fiberglass batts. In central Indiana, where the temperature swings from single digits to the mid-90s, that's the difference between a room you use twelve months a year and a room you avoid from November to March.
The sequence matters too. Electrical rough-in goes first. Spray foam goes second. Then we caulk every seam and window opening from the interior before any trim or finish walls go in. That layered approach eliminates the air infiltration that makes poorly insulated additions expensive to heat and cool.
If you're considering an addition and someone tells you fiberglass batts are "good enough," ask them what their heating bill looks like in January.
