Team members from Cianbro Equipment in Bloomfield, Connecticut, recently came together to build a backyard playground for 8-year-old Natalia, who is courageously fighting brain cancer. For Natalia and her family, this playset is more than a place to play. It's a safe space where she can simply be a kid while undergoing treatment.

"This is the best day and playset ever," Natalia shared during the surprise reveal.

Natalia's mother spoke about the impact of the project. "You don't realize how much little things mean until you are going through something like this," she said. She also shared that the family's previous playset had been destroyed in a severe storm, and because Natalia's immune system is compromised, visits to public playgrounds aren't always possible.

For the Cianbro team, the experience was just as meaningful.
"This experience was amazing, and we are really appreciative of the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life," said Doug LaCroix, General Manager. "This made a difference in all of our lives as well."

As teams across the Cianbro Companies continue partnering with Roc Solid Foundation to bring moments of joy to families facing childhood cancer, we're reminded that our greatest projects aren't always measured in steel, concrete, or equipment.

Building Skills, Confidence, and Community!

Cianbro was proud to serve as a Premier Partner of the Flagg Brothers Basketball ProCamp held August 15-16 at the University of Maine in Orono.

The camp welcomed hundreds of young athletes ages 6-13 from communities across Maine for two days of basketball instruction, skill development, and unforgettable experiences. Participants had the opportunity to learn from Maine basketball standouts Ace and Cooper Flagg.

At Cianbro, we believe in supporting opportunities that inspire young people to grow, learn, and reach their full potential, whether on the court, in the classroom, or in their future careers.

What started as a conversation at a college career fair turned into a future career with Cianbro.

Rohan Hikel, a senior studying Power Engineering Technology at Maine Maritime Academy, joined the DD2 RSC project at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard this summer as a Cianbro Engineering Intern. Along the way, he gained hands-on experience solving real-world construction challenges and collaborating with project teams.

As someone with no prior construction background, Rohan says the internship opened his eyes to the industry: “I had never considered this line of work until the Spring career fair at my school,” he said. “I think it really set me on a new path.”

One of his favorite experiences was working on firestopping, combining his engineering role with knowledge gained as a former firefighter.

Rohan also made a lasting impact on the project by developing an Excel macro that streamlined the submittal log process, saving valuable time for the team.

When asked to describe his internship experience in one word, he chose:
“Practical. I got a real experience this summer as an engineer on a really cool project. I never felt like ‘just an intern.’ I got to really contribute.”

We're proud to share that Rohan has accepted a full-time position with Cianbro as a Field Engineer and will join us after graduating in 2027.

This summer, Cianbro was proud to partner with the Associated General Contractors of Maine to support the Maine Construction Academy Immersion Program. This pre-apprenticeship program gives students ages 16-20 valuable hands-on exposure to careers in the construction industry.

As an employer partner, we recently had the opportunity to host students from Brewer High School at Cianbro Fabrication and Coating in Pittsfield, Maine. During their visit, students explored a variety of skilled trades and participated in hands-on activities including surveying, oxy-fuel torch cutting, and crane operations.

Experiences like these help students discover the many career paths available in construction while building confidence and practical skills for the future.

A talented pipefitter and dedicated instructor at the Cianbro Institute, Shawn has spent more than two decades sharing his knowledge, developing future craft professionals, and making a lasting impact on those around him.

Known for his contagious optimism and positive attitude, Shawn faces every challenge with determination and a smile. He embodies the Cianbro can-do spirit, and when asked to help, his answer is almost always a resounding "YES!"

When Aidan Clark of Cornville, Maine, decided he was ready for a new challenge, he wanted an opportunity to learn, grow, and build a career in the trades.

That journey began with the Cianbro Institute's two-week Boot Camp, where Aidan joined nine other new team members for an introduction to construction fundamentals. Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on learning, participants gained experience with power tools and equipment, rigging and signaling, pipefitting, welding, ironworker and millwright tasks, and powerline work.

Aidan especially enjoyed the ironworker development, where he worked with cranes, rigging, hand signals, and structural steel.

"Being able to build a big structure and work with heavy materials was really fun for me. It helped me focus and showed me how to use my strengths safely to help get the project done."

Today, Aidan is applying what he learned helping support Cianbro’s construction of a dry dock. From rigging and concrete work to housekeeping and site safety, he's already putting Boot Camp lessons into practice.

"Being part of Cianbro means family. You watch out for each other, help each other grow, and support each other's success," he said.

The Cianbro Institute Boot Camp continues to provide new team members with the skills, knowledge, confidence, and support needed to begin successful careers in construction.
