A Bit of History:

From the 1920s until the 1980s, the film exchange was operated by Paramount Pictures as it housed film reels, offices, and private screening rooms. Theater owners visited the exch

ange to view a picture before purchasing it to play in their theaters. Pittsburgh’s film exchanges were all within blocks of each other, forming a “film row.” Only three of the original buildings remain. What's Next:

Renovations to transform the building will begin soon. It will be home to Denmarsh Photography, Inc.'s new studio, as well as the offices of Start Uptown, a nonprofit organization that provides collaborative work and living space for early-stage entrepreneurs and their companies at below market rates. Alexander also hopes to find a restaurateur to open a cafe and bar in the vault room.
