Summer is "party season" for pests—but you’re not on the guest list! As the temperatures rise, bugs and rodents are looking for a cool place to crash.
Keep them out with these 3 essential defense moves:
1. The Crack & Crevice Check
-Pests don’t need an open door. A mouse can fit through a hole the size of a dime!
-Check window screens for tiny tears.
-Seal gaps around pipes and wires with silicone caulk.
-If you see light under your door, install a door sweep ASAP.
2. Manage the Moisture
-Most summer pests are actually hunting for water.
-Clean those gutters to stop mosquito breeding.
-Fix leaky outdoor spigots and under-sink drips.
The 18-inch Rule: Keep mulch and woodpiles away from your foundation to break the "moist bridge" into your home.
3. Lockdown the Kitchen
Summer metabolism is high, and pests are hungry.
-Crumb Patrol: Wipe counters nightly to kill ant pheromone trails.
-Air-tight is Right: Swap cardboard boxes for sealed glass or plastic containers.
-Trash Talk: Use a lid and take the bags out often!

We’re back again with Part 2 of how to Keep your home a "no-fly zone" with these 3 essential mosquito hacks:
1. Eliminate "Micro-Nurseries" (The Water Reset)
-Mosquitoes can go from egg to adult in as little as 7 to 10 days. To break the life cycle, you must remove their breeding grounds.
-The Weekly Walk: Once a week, tip out any standing water in flower pots, gutters, buckets, and pool covers.

2. Manage the "Greenery" (Habitat Modification)
-During the heat of the day, mosquitoes hide in cool, damp, shaded areas. If you make your yard less "cozy," they will move elsewhere.
-Trim and Mow: Keep your lawn short and thin out dense shrubbery. This increases airflow and sun exposure, which dries out the mosquitoes.
-Target the Underside: If you use a yard spray, focus specifically on the underside of leaves on low-hanging trees and bushes. This is where they sleep.

3. Fortify Your "Vents and Entryways"
If they are getting inside your home, it is usually due to a mechanical failure in your house’s perimeter.
-The Screen Check: Inspect window and door screens for even the tiniest tears. A mosquito can fit through a hole the size of a pencil eraser.
-Air Barriers: Mosquitoes are notoriously weak fliers. Installing a high-velocity ceiling fan or an oscillating fan on your patio creates enough turbulence to make it nearly impossible for them to land and bite you.

Secret Tip: While "Mosquito-repelling plants" like Citronella or Lavender are lovely, they generally don't provide enough protection just by sitting in a pot. You'd have to crush the leaves and rub them on your skin to see any real effect!

It’s that time again! The Mosquitos are back to cause mischief and mayhem. Don’t let them make themselves at home on your property
Here’s a few good ways to tell if you've got mosquitos in your midst.
1. Check for "Wrigglers"
- Look in standing water (plant saucers, gutters, birdbaths) for tiny, 1/4-inch worm-like larvae.
- The Tell: They swim with a jerky, "S" shaped flipping motion if you tap the container.
2. Spot the "Needle"
- Mosquitoes are small (3mm–9mm). If it’s larger than a quarter, it’s likely a harmless Crane Fly.
- The Key: Look for the proboscis—a long, needle-like snout used for piercing.
3. Observe the "Hunch"
How they sit tells you everything.
- The Pose: Mosquitoes rest at an angle with their hind legs raised, looking slightly "hunchbacked."
- The Imposter: If it’s resting flat with wings spread wide, it’s just a common fly.

Pro Tip: If you hear a high-pitched, persistent buzzing near your ears, it’s almost certainly a female mosquito. Males don't bite and their "buzz" is a different frequency usually not heard by humans.

Summertime wasps part 2
Here's a few tips on how to get rid of the wicked winged wasps.
-Seal the Buffet 🍔
Wasps are the ultimate scavengers. Keep trash cans tightly sealed, rinse out soda cans before recycling, and never leave pet food outside. If there’s no free lunch, they won't RSVP "yes" to your yard.
-The Essential Shield 🌿
Wasps despise strong, pungent scents. Mix peppermint, clove, and lemongrass oils with water and a dash of dish soap. Spray this "force field" around eaves, windowsills, and doorways to discourage them from moving in.
-Hang a "Fake" Nest
Wasps are incredibly territorial and won't build a home near a rival colony. Hanging a decoy paper nest (or even a crumpled brown paper bag) in your porch area can trick them into thinking the neighborhood is already taken.
-Plant a No-Fly Zone 🌱
Let nature do the work. Line your patio with wasp-repellent plants like Spearmint, Basil, Marigolds, or Citronella. They look great to us, but to a wasp, they smell like a "Keep Out" sign.

Pro Tip: If you spot a nest starting in early spring, deal with it while it’s the size of a golf ball. Once it reaches "football" status, it's time to call in a professional rather than going DIY!

With the Summertime soon approaching the time has come to talk about wasps! Here's a few quick tips on identifying these wicked winged pests. Make sure to check back in on Wednesday for some more tips on dealing with them.
- The "Wasp Waist" ⏳ Look for a very thin, pinched-in middle (called a petiole). Bees are chunky and "barrel-shaped," but wasps always have that sleek, hourglass figure.
- Smooth & Shiny Armor ✨ Unlike fuzzy honeybees, wasps have hairless, polished bodies. Their colors are bold and high-contrast—think vivid yellows, deep blacks, or even metallic blues.
- "Landing Gear" Flight 🦵 Watch them in the air! Many wasps (like Paper Wasps) fly with their long back legs dangling loosely below them. Bees almost always tuck theirs in tight.
- Paper-Mache Homes 🏠 Wasps are architects of paper. They chew wood fibers to build gray or brown nests that look like open umbrellas or papery footballs—never wax honeycombs.
- The Picnic Test 🥤 If an insect is trying to crawl into your soda or steal a bite of ham, it's a wasp. Bees are "vegans" interested in flowers; wasps are aggressive scavengers looking for sugar and protein.
