Mindy Golvash always got excited to tell her new third-graders that their Elroy Elementary classroom is the same space where she learned fractions and vocabulary as a fourth-grader.

The kids “love to know,” she said.

Golvash has spent the majority of her teaching career there, building memories and traditions with her students. But she’s now preparing to say goodbye to the classroom and school that shaped her as a teacher — Brentwood Borough School District officials are closing Elroy and Moore elementaries and opening a new K-5 center this fall.

“I am a little sad,” Golvash said. “But I’m just excited for the new experience and air conditioning.

Ground has officially broken for the additions and renovations at the Carlynton School District Carnegie Elementary School! The district held a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week to mark the start of construction that will create modernized spaces to enhance students’ learning experiences.

The renovations include relocating the library to the second floor to allow for more natural light and space for students, a new music room, updated restrooms, and new classrooms where the existing library and cafeteria are located. The addition, located at the rear of the building, will incorporate a cafetorium, small group learning spaces, and new STEAM classrooms with a folding partition to promote a flexible and collaborative environment. DRAWers stepped up for our first Steps Challenge! For three weeks in May, four teams competed to gain the most steps. While collectively all the teams amassed over 5 MILLION steps, there was only one winning team: Archi-Steps! With over 1.6 million steps, this team took home the winning trophy (hand-crafted by DRAW’s President, Dan Engen). Tim Reidy took home the award for most individual steps with an outstanding 401,359 steps! Shoutout to the Connectors for organizing our first Steps Challenge. This was a great team-bonding experience that also instilled some healthy habits among the office!
