Why Skampcan?

Lets face it, the common dustpan has some real shortcomings! Don’t get us wrong, the dustpan has its place. It’s just not always practical for those areas that need swept more often. For example: Entry Ways, Kitchens, Litterbox Area, and don’t forget your RV or Camper. The Skampcan and Vented Skampcan are real world solutions to the frustrations associated with the common dustpan. Give the Skampcan a try and eliminate the “dustpan dance” in your life.

The Skampcan is now stocked and sold within Do-It Best Corporation. You can purchase the Skampcan through https://www.doitbest.com/ for $24.99 or through participating Do-It Best Stores (prices may very) and Skampcan.com.

Ever wonder where the Skampcan came from? Well here is a little Skampcan history for you on this dreary Indiana afternoon!

Growing up on our family’s central Indiana farm, my Grandmother’s kitchen was “the hub” for most daily activities. From some of my earliest memories I can still see my Grandma sweeping several times most days into the “corner”. Toward the end of the day, sometimes at lunch if we had tracked in the house bad, she would fetch her dustpan and clean-up the “corner”. I, my Grandpa or some other family member would inadvertently kick the pile in the “corner”. Even as a child I knew why she did not get out the dustpan every time. I remember telling Grandma we should cut a hole in the corner. It seemed very logical as a child and could save us all from being scolded. At times like those Grandma would call me a “scamp”, (def: a mischievous child) and we would both laugh. As I grew up and pursued a career in the residential construction field, I repeatedly saw the need to come up with a solution to the dustpan. People from all walks of life gladly use a broom but wish they could do something other than use a dustpan when they were finished sweeping. Most of us know those “solutions”. You start to look for a corner, a rug, a floor register, an open door… Anywhere to sweep the pile if it means not to go find the dustpan! Approximately 40 years from my first recollection of Grandma sweeping into the “corner”. A friend asked me,” have you ever thought about inventing something?” I knew it was time to begin work on a product that would work much better than the dreaded dustpan. Grandma has been gone many years now, but I do know though that she would have just loved using a Skampcan.

(Pictured below is the original "corner" where a Skampcan now resides.)
