I have been promising to bring on one guest per quarter on THE TOXIC MOLD PODCAST, and I'm holding up to my promise. I had the opportunity to interview Andi Hembroff.

Andi is a representative for Respirare Labs which is a mycotoxin testing company. We talk about the journey Andi took to get involved in the mold industry after dealing with toxic mold in her home.

We talk about the different testing methods at Respriare Labs and how you can utilize them. The AMEA (Airborne Mycotoxin Environmental Analysis) is an air test. The MESA (Mycotoxin Environmental Surface Analysis) is a surface test that can be used to test something like an heirloom piano to see if it has mycotoxins.

Love should be in the air, not mold! This Valentines Day, show your home a little love too.
*Look for dark spots on walls, ceilings and around windows.
* Keep the humidity in the home below 60% with proper ventilation or dehumidifiers.
* Fix leaks in a timely manner.

January is radon awareness month! Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer next to smoking. Radon is the natural decay product of uranium and radium. Radon enters your home through the soils and into the living areas. Homes over a crawlspace are less likely to have elevated radon levels if it's ventilated properly.

How do you test for radon? There are several ways to test but the most accurate way of testing is with a CRM (continuous radon monitor) by a professional. You can also test with a charcoal canister and do it yourself.

Where should you test? It's best to test the lowest livable level of your home. If you have a basement, it should be tested there. If you have a crawlspace, you should test on the first level above the crawlspace.

The average radon levels should be below 4 pCi/L If you have high levels of radon, you should have a professional install a radon mitigation system. You should test your home for radon every other year.

If you'd like to purchase a great IAQ monitor, we will post a link in the comment section for a unit that monitors your radon levels in the home. The luft unit also monitors the humidity, temperature, tVOC, air pressure and eCO2.
