🌱 Lawn Care Update from Jeff’s Outdoor Services 🌱
We’ve finally received some much-needed moisture over the last day or two, which will help things green up. However, we were experiencing unusually dry conditions for June, with limited rainfall causing many lawns to dry out quickly.
Even with the recent rain, we are still encouraging proper mowing practices to keep your lawn healthy through these changing conditions.
✂️ Recommended mowing height: 3–4 inches
At Jeff’s Outdoor Services, we typically set our mower decks at this height for all of our customers because it helps protect the grass during dry periods and helps support stronger root growth and health of the lawns we service.
Even if we are providing w**d control and fertilizer programs for your lawn, mowing height still plays a critical role in overall turf health, and it is important to pay attention to it.
Keeping your lawn too short can cause:
• Grass to dry out faster
• Lawns to go dormant and turn brown
• Slower recovery after heat or drought stress
While some people choose to cut their lawn shorter in an effort to mow less often, it ultimately does not benefit the health of the turf. Lawns cut too short will struggle to recover, and the appearance of the lawn will suffer along with the increased time needed for it to bounce back.
Maintaining a height of 3–4 inches helps retain moisture, shade the soil, and keeps your lawn healthier overall—especially during drought-like conditions like we’ve seen this spring and summer.
If your lawn has been cut too short recently, raising the mowing height next time can still help it recover over time, but a quick recovery should not be expected.
Stay green out there! 🌿
