đź“Ť Project Highlight: From Builder-Grade Steps to a Backyard Built to Enjoy

Sometimes the biggest transformations come from the simplest projects.

These homeowners wanted to replace a small set of builder-grade steps with a functional outdoor living space that better suited the way they use their backyard. Their goal was to create a comfortable area for relaxing, grilling, and spending time outside while adding long-term value to their home.

We constructed a new low-maintenance deck using TimberTech AZEK PVC decking, complete with a contrasting picture-frame border, matching fascia, and custom stairs for a clean, finished appearance. The deck is supported by helical piers, providing a stable foundation designed to perform in Michigan’s changing soil conditions while minimizing disruption to the existing landscape.

The result is an outdoor space that feels like it was always meant to be part of the home. Clean lines, premium materials, and quality craftsmanship come together to create a backyard that’s as beautiful as it is functional.

At Pier Michigan Decks, we believe every project—whether it’s a compact backyard deck or a large outdoor living space—deserves the same attention to detail and commitment to quality. Building spaces where families can make memories is what we enjoy most.

đź“Ť Project Highlight: Expanding an Outdoor Living Space

Three years ago, we built this TimberTech AZEK deck for these homeowners. Recently, they reached back out with a new goal—create more usable outdoor space and make room for a retractable awning so they could enjoy their deck even more.

We extended the existing deck by 8 feet, carefully matching the original materials and craftsmanship so the addition looks like it was always part of the original design. The new layout provides plenty of room for outdoor dining and entertaining while giving the retractable awning the coverage it needs to create comfortable shade throughout the day.

The project features TimberTech AZEK PVC decking, Westbury aluminum railing, hidden fasteners, and seamless detailing throughout the extension to preserve the clean, low-maintenance finish our clients loved from the original build.

One of the best compliments we can receive is when a client trusts us with another project years later. We're grateful they chose us again to continue improving their outdoor living space.

This elevated deck makes a bold and functional addition to the home’s exterior. Built for durability and ease of maintenance, it creates a seamless walkout from the main level with safe, stylish access to the backyard.

We used TimberTech Azek’s new Harvest+ collection in Timber Gray, paired with TimberTech’s IRX black aluminum railings for a striking contrast. The picture frame border and stair trim details keep the design sharp, while the pressure-treated frame provides reliable support for years to come.
