From rotting to rock solid. π‘
This front porch post had the classic signs of wood rot: peeling paint, a crumbling base, and moisture damage working its way up from the bottom. It's easy to write that off as a cosmetic problem, but your porch posts are holding up your porch roof.
Rot doesn't stop on its own. Every rain and every freeze-thaw cycle pushes moisture deeper into the wood. Over time it spreads into the beam above and the framing around it, and the post gets weaker while carrying the same weight. Eventually the roof can start to sag, railings can loosen, and what could have been a single post replacement becomes a much bigger and more expensive repair.
If you're seeing soft wood, peeling paint, dark stains, or cracks at the base of your porch posts, don't wait until spring. Let's take care of it now while it's still an easy repair.
