Most roof failures start at the details, not the field of shingles or tile.

A durable desert roof is an assembly. Underlayment choice and layering matter in high heat. Standard and synthetic products differ, and code minimums are not automatically best practice. Follow the approved design, product instructions and jurisdiction. Detail drip edge at eaves and rakes; properly integrate flashing at walls, chimneys, skylights and every pe*******on. Install shingles or tile with manufacturer-required fastening patterns for the product and wind exposure. Manufacturer instructions govern warranty requirements.

Before anything is covered, inspect and photograph deck preparation, underlayment and flashing. Coordinate roof work with gutters, solar rough-in and rooftop equipment. Keep product data, permit and inspection records. If deck condition, framing or manufacturer instructions conflict with the plan, stop and notify the owner in writing before covering.

The wall of a trench is not a wall you built. A cubic yard of soil weighs more than a car. Soil can fail without warning.

Depth, soil type, water, vibration, surcharge loads and weather all matter. A designated competent person inspects daily and after rain or changed conditions. Choose sloping, benching, shoring or a trench box for actual conditions, not habit.

Keep spoil, equipment and materials back from the edge. Control surface water; never work around standing water or a seeping wall. Guard, protect and sign unattended openings. Provide stairs, ladders or ramps within the defined travel distance; never ride the bucket. No entry if protection, inspection or conditions are in question. Document inspections, protective systems and corrections daily.

MISSION-PAUSE: Stop work and notify the owner in writing if conditions differ from plan, water appears, protection is missing, or anyone says “just hop in for a quick look.” Brief. Verify. Account for every decision.

The most expensive remodel mistake is treating a structural question as a cosmetic one.

Roof and floor loads travel through beams or headers, posts, and bearing or shear walls/braced wall panels to the foundation. A wall that looks ordinary may still be structural. Clues for professional review include walls perpendicular to floor joists; supporting a beam or stacked walls; over a center girder or pier; with doubled top plates; or continuing to a crawlspace or foundation.

Before cutting, retain a licensed design professional or structural engineer, obtain permits from the governing jurisdiction, and secure signed, stamped drawings. Work may require temporary shoring and load transfer before demolition; engineered beam and post sizing; specified connectors and fasteners; positive post connections to the footing and structure; framing reinforcement; and coordinated trade sequencing.

Require framing and shear-nailing inspections before drywall. Keep drawings, calculations and permits; photograph open conditions; confirm scope in writing. MISSION PAUSE: if site conditions, framing or drawings conflict, stop and notify the owner in writing. Never improvise structural work, guess a beam size, or replace stamped drawings with a handshake plan. Consult licensed professionals and the governing jurisdiction. Water doesn’t negotiate. Plan below grade before you backfill.

Titan Construction USA is NOT YET officially in business and NOT YET licensed in the State of Arizona; the company is in the establishment and licensing process. Everything described is intended future practice only, after licensing and lawful operation.

Dampproofing limits moisture; waterproofing is designed to resist water entry. Choose based on soil, water table and site conditions, not price. Positive-side protection addresses water at its source; an interior, negative-side coating may treat symptoms, not the source.

Start with finished grade sloped away, swales, gutters and downspouts discharging clear of the footing. A complete system may include a manufacturer-specified membrane, protection/drainage board, correctly sized and sloped footing drain in washed stone with filter fabric, and a gravity outlet or sump as conditions require. Drain window and egress wells. Seal joints, pe*******ons and sleeves per the system. Under slabs, lap and seal v***r retarders and capillary breaks, then protect them before placement.

Use trained installers; inspect and photograph each stage before covering or backfilling. Keep debris out of drainage layers and use specified backfill and compaction. Keep product data, installer credentials, photos and an as-built drainage plan. Leaks can cost more to repair after finishes and landscaping are in place.

If soil, water observations or approved drawings differ from the plan, stop and notify the owner in writing before backfilling or covering. This is our intended future mission-pause standard, and No Bu****it policy.

YOUR ATTIC IS NOT A STORAGE ROOM. IT IS A SYSTEM.

Arizona attics can become much hotter than the outdoor air. Balanced ventilation, clear soffit intake paired with ridge or off-ridge exhaust, helps manage heat and moisture; it does not cool the house. More venting is not automatically better: the net free vent area and intake-to-exhaust balance must be appropriate to the design.

Insulation-blocked soffits, missing eave baffles, compressed insulation, leaky top plates, attic hatches, pe*******ons, or ducts can undermine the thermal and pressure boundary. Insulation must be kept clear of heat-producing equipment as required by manufacturer instructions and life-safety requirements. Bath and kitchen exhaust must terminate outdoors, never in the attic. Duct sealing, insulation, safe equipment access, and clear service paths matter, too.

Intended future practice: document insulation depth, vent area, baffles, and duct sealing before closing up. If conditions conflict with approved drawings, manufacturer instructions, or life-safety requirements, pause and verify.

CONCRETE DOESN'T CURE ON A SCHEDULE. IT CURES ON CONDITIONS.

Disclosure: Titan Construction USA is NOT YET officially in business and NOT YET licensed in the State of Arizona. Establishment and licensing are in progress. This is intended future practice only, after licensing and lawful operation.

Arizona heat, low humidity, wind and sun speed ev***ration and plastic-shrinkage cracking before set; a 7 AM mix may fail by afternoon. Concrete cures chemically, not by “drying”: it needs water and time. Strength depends on retained moisture, not surface hardness.

Never add water on site to ease a hot, stiff mix: it changes the water-cement ratio and reduces strength. Set workability with the supplier and mix design before delivery. Prepare a uniform, compacted, moist-not-muddy base; verify thickness, edge support, rebar on chairs and required v***r-retarder seams.

Plan control-joint depth, isolation at walls/columns and saw-cut timing: too early tears aggregate; too late invites random cracks. Where practical, place in cooler hours; plan shade/windbreaks, early surface moisture, ev***ration retarders or curing compounds, and supplier-approved mix adjustments, not truckside water.

Start curing as finishing allows. Keep the slab continuously moist with water, wet coverings, curing compound or blankets as applicable, for the specified period, often ~7 days for typical flatwork, longer if required. Keep vehicles, materials and heavy loads off young concrete; “looks hard” isn’t a strength test.

Coordinate inspections, reinforcement, sleeves, anchor bolts and future loads. Log slump, air, temperature, cylinders, date/time, weather, mix ticket and curing method. If the mix, weather, prep, reinforcement or approved drawings differ, stop; document it in writing and resolve before placement. A pause costs less than slab replacement.

Titan Construction USA is NOT YET officially in business and NOT YET licensed in the State of Arizona; we are in the establishment and licensing process. This describes intended future practice only, after licensing and lawful operation, not current services or an offer of work.

Pre-1980 homes may contain lead paint or asbestos; neither is identifiable by sight. Asbestos may be in textured/popcorn ceilings, wall finishes, joint compound/drywall mud, floor tile or sheet flooring and underlying mastic, pipe/duct insulation, furnace/boiler wrap, roof/siding, and caulks/sealants. Lead may be on windows/window wells, doors/trim, stair rails/banisters, porches/railings, siding, and repeatedly painted surfaces. Friction/impact surfaces create the dust that matters most.

Disturbance spreads contamination: grinding, sanding, dry-scraping, demolition, aggressive vacuuming, or power tools without dust control. Test first with qualified inspectors and labs; get written results before setting scope/budget. “Small,” one room, or one bathroom is no exemption; plan for surprises.

Where required, regulated work must be done by appropriately certified/licensed firms and individuals and disclosed to occupants and crew. Rules vary by building and jurisdiction, verify, don’t guess. Use required barriers/containment, negative air, HEPA filtration, wet methods, sealed debris, PPE, and decontamination. No eating or drinking in containment.

Seal, label, and document suspect/confirmed waste, not household trash, a neighbor’s dumpster, or a burn pile. Keep test/clearance reports, photos, disposal receipts, and a written record of what was removed and remains for future trades/buyers. Include real time and cost upfront in the estimate/schedule, not a surprise change order. Residents, neighbors, and crews deserve to know; hiding hazards to win a bid is a liability. If suspect material appears or the plan conflicts with rules/reports, stop, notify the owner in writing that day, and reassess before restarting.

BEFORE THE FIRST SCOOP OF DIRT, CALL 811. GUESSING IS NOT A PLAN.

A trench, fence post, tree, pool or deck footing can meet utilities hidden underground. Our intended future practice, after licensing and lawful operation:

Call Arizona 811 / Blue Stake well before excavation. Qualifying public utilities are located at no cost, and advance notice is typically a couple of business days. White-line the exact dig area, wait for and review the ticket, and keep markings current. Respect the tolerance zone, commonly about 24 inches on either side, and hand-dig or pothole to expose and verify utilities before machine digging. Never assume depth.

811 generally does not locate private-side lines such as irrigation, landscape lighting, pool plumbing, septic or well lines, and private electrical. Review as-builts and arrange private locating where needed. If markings are missing or expired, or private lines are unknown, stop and re-plan. If a line is hit, stop work and clear the area. For gas or electric, call 911 and the utility. Never cover a damaged line.
