Why pave at night?

Less traffic. Cooler working conditions. Fewer disruptions.

Nighttime paving gives our crews the opportunity to work when traffic volumes are lower, helping reduce congestion and conflicts around the work zone. In Arizona, where daytime temperatures can push crews and equipment to their limits, cooler overnight conditions can also make a demanding job more manageable. It takes careful planning to account for the faster cooling of asphalt after dark, but when the conditions are right, the night shift can be a smart way to keep projects moving while minimizing the impact on the traveling public.

The best crews don’t chase the schedule. They stay ahead of it.

Asphalt is a game of timing. One delay can affect crews, materials, traffic control, and everything that follows. That’s why we put serious work into planning every phase before the first machine ever hits the pavement. Staying ahead of the schedule isn’t luck. It’s experience, coordination, and ex*****on. And that’s where we separate ourselves from the pack.

The Roads that Define Arizona

From highways cutting through the desert to major routes connecting communities across the state, our crews have had the opportunity to put their work on some of Arizona’s most recognizable roads. These highways carry millions of people every year, and we’re proud to be part of the work that keeps them moving.

Keeping the course looking great from the green to the pavement!

Our crew completed a slurry seal project at this beautiful golf course on the bank of the Colorado River, giving the existing pavement a fresh, clean appearance while adding an important layer of protection.

Slurry seal is a great way to help extend pavement life, protect against the elements, and maintain a smooth, well-kept surface for members, guests, and staff. Our team focused on delivering quality results while working efficiently around an active golf course.

Another project completed with pride, and another surface ready for many more rounds!

Our Tucson team was proud to support the Amphi Foundation at its Back to School Give Back Mixer! 🎒📚

Sunland donated a wagon full of healthy snacks to help restock shelves and support students throughout the Amphi School District. A big thank you to Santino and our Tucson Division for representing Sunland and giving back to the community we serve!

13 Miles of a Vital Connection Rebuilt

This project was about more than 13 miles of pavement. It was about rebuilding a vital piece of US 160 east of Tuba City and helping maintain an important connection for the community and everyone who travels this route.

The work was extensive, including milling 2 inches of the existing pavement, installing a Stress Absorbing Membrane Interlayer (SAMI), placing approximately 50,000 tons of Asphaltic Concrete at a 3-inch depth, and completing the project with a final chip seal application.

But with heavy traffic traveling through the project and crews working in close proximity to moving vehicles, there was one priority that outweighed everything else: safety.

Every morning began with conversations about staying alert, paying attention to the work zone, and watching out for one another. We’re proud to say that the collective effort of everyone on this project helped keep our crews safe throughout the work.

A project of this scale takes a strong team. Thank you to Vulcan Materials Company for supplying the Asphaltic Concrete, Cactus Asphalt for completing the SAMI operation, CMT Technical Services for quality control and testing, and Quail Construction for providing traffic control.

13 miles of roadway rebuilt. Approximately 50,000 tons of asphalt placed. One vital connection strengthened for the road ahead.
