Prep your deck now for winter, and it’ll be ready for those sunny spring mornings before you know it.
🧹 1. Give It a Deep Clean
Before winter hits, sweep away leaves, dirt, and debris — they trap moisture that can lead to mold and rot. For composite decks, a gentle wash with mild soap and water keeps the surface looking fresh.
🪵 2. Check for Loose Boards & Fasteners
Inspect for lifted boards, popped nails, or wobbly railings. Tightening and replacing now prevents small issues from becoming major repairs later.
💦 3. Seal and Protect
If you have a natural wood deck, apply a high-quality water repellent or sealant before wet weather arrives. This protects against swelling, splitting, and fading through the cold months.
🧊 4. Watch for Ice & Snow
Avoid using rock salt or harsh chemicals on your deck — they can damage the finish. Use a plastic shovel for snow and a pet-safe ice melt if needed.
