Termites are one of those problems where noticing the signs early can make a big difference. One thing homeowners can watch for is small, mud-like tubes along the stem wall or foundation of the home. You may also notice tubing extending into other areas, including around ceilings or other structural points. These can be signs that termites are moving through the property.

We recommend keeping an eye on the areas around the base of your home and not brushing off anything that looks unusual. Termite activity can happen out of sight, and waiting until there is obvious structural damage can make the situation much more complicated.

The recent rains feel great. Unfortunately, they also wake up something you really don’t want in your home: termites. 🐜

Here in the Valley, we deal with subterranean termites. Their colonies can reach 60,000 strong and live 5 to 6 feet underground. When the soil gets wet and temperatures cool down, they start moving to find food. That food is the lumber your house is built from, plus the siding, the paper on your drywall, furniture, and even picture frames. If it’s cut wood, they’re going after it.

Here’s what to watch for:
🔍 Little mud tubes running straight up from the ground at the base of your home
🔍 Mud stuck to a wall where it shouldn’t be. That’s almost guaranteed to be termites.

Just one tube can mean thousands of termites. They won’t destroy your house in a month or two. In six to eight months, though, they can weaken it and put you in a dangerous situation, and the repairs are where termites really hurt your wallet.

The approach we always recommend is a baiting system. We place bait stations around your perimeter, the termites carry that bait back to the colony, and once the queen dies, the colony can’t survive. It costs a lot less than repairing the damage.

Seeing one scorpion inside your home does not necessarily mean there are dozens hiding nearby, but it is worth paying attention to. Scorpions are nocturnal and good at staying out of sight, so spotting one can be a reason to look more closely at what may be happening around the property.

Sugar ants can find some surprisingly convenient routes into a home, including plumbing and drains. That is part of what makes them so frustrating. You can keep your counters clean and seal obvious gaps, but if they have another route in, you may still see them showing up.

We use targeted treatments that work with sugar ant behavior instead of only treating the ants you can see. A drain treatment can help flush ants out of those plumbing areas, while gel bait gives worker ants something they can carry back to the colony.
