Before backfilling around a foundation, the soil is often mixed with water to achieve proper compaction. 💧🏠

Compaction isn’t just about packing dirt in place—it’s about creating a stable base that helps prevent future settling, foundation movement, and drainage issues. By adding the right amount of moisture, the soil particles lock together more tightly, allowing each lift to be compacted to the density required by the engineer.

It’s one of those important steps most people never see, but it plays a big role in the long-term performance of the home.

Soil testing came back on the import dirt and it’s a good. A geotechnical investigation identifies:
• Soil type and strength
• Expansive clay content
• Moisture conditions
• Compaction requirements
• Whether the on-site material can be reused or needs to be replaced
By testing the soil before construction, engineers can design the proper foundation and ensure the building is supported by stable, properly compacted material. Spending a little on soil testing upfront can prevent costly repairs and foundation problems later.

The backfilling is done right starts with proper compaction.

We are placing soil in controlled 12-inch lifts and performing compaction testing throughout the process to ensure the backfill meets engineering specifications. Each layer is compacted and tested before the next lift is placed, creating a stable foundation that helps prevent future settlement issues.

The work you don’t see is often the most important. Quality construction starts from the ground up.

💧 Waterproofing before backfill is one of those critical steps that most people will never see when the home is finished.

Before any soil goes back against these foundation walls, we apply a waterproofing membrane to help protect the structure from moisture intrusion and extend the life of the foundation. It’s much easier to do it right now than deal with problems years down the road.

Another major milestone checked off as we continue making progress on this custom home build. The foundation is in, the floor system is down, and now we’re backfilling to prepare for the next phase of construction.

It’s always exciting to see a project start taking shape from the ground up. Stay tuned—framing is right around the corner!

We had the privilege of touring the Anderson window and doors facility in Goodyear, a sprawling 550,000sqft manufacturing plant producing the renowned 100-series line of windows. As the company's flagship plant in the western United States, the Goodyear plant supports the growth of Andersen's rapidly expanding Fibrex-based product line, further strengthening its market presence.
