A legal fight over logging in Alaska’s Tongass National Forest raises questions that Indigenous communities have faced for generations: what is lost when decisions about forests are reduced to the value of timber?

Old-growth forests provide habitat, store carbon, protect waterways, and support ways of life connected to the land. For Alaska Native communities, these places can carry cultural and subsistence importance that cannot simply be replaced by planting new trees somewhere else.

Once an ancient forest is cut, restoring what took centuries to develop is not a quick process. Listening to Tribal communities and protecting culturally important lands must remain part of decisions about the Tongass. 🌲

She died over a hundred years ago — a child, alone, at an Indian boarding school a thousand miles from everything she knew.

They buried her in a Pennsylvania field. No family present. No songs sung. No blanket wrapped around her. Just a small grave in foreign soil, far from the land of her ancestors, far from home. The school recorded her death in a ledger and moved on. To them, she was a number.

But to her people, she was never a number. She was a daughter of the Nation. And for over a century, they carried her memory — telling her story, saying her name, refusing to let her be forgotten by time or distance.

Then came the day her people had prayed for. Tribal representatives traveled to Pennsylvania. With ceremony and reverence, they brought her home — wrapped in a tribal blanket, honored with songs, welcomed by dances, surrounded by the community she was stolen from as a little girl.

She was finally laid to rest where she always belonged: home.

This is what justice looks like — a century late, but it still counts. And she is not the last. One by one, they are all coming home.

Welcome home, little one. 🦅

Her people waited a century to bring her home. What part of her story stays with you — and who will you share it with?

Behind many fur products is an animal whose life was reduced to the value of its coat. Wildlife trapping and fur farming have long raised questions about suffering, biodiversity, and whether fashion justifies the killing of animals for something humans can increasingly replace.

The impact can extend beyond individual animals. Wildlife belongs within ecosystems where predators and prey each have roles, and commercial exploitation can place additional pressure on species already facing habitat loss and other threats.

What we choose to buy can send a message about the world we want to leave behind. Protecting wildlife begins with recognizing that living creatures are worth more alive than as products. 🐾

EVIL: While Ukraine burns, Jared Kushner is cashing in.

RAW STORY writes: "While Kushner and Witkoff were reportedly negotiating with Iran in the mornings and discussing Russia’s war on Ukraine in the afternoons, Filkins wrote that Kushner was also quietly working Middle Eastern investors for a fresh $5 billion for his private equity firm, Affinity Partners."

"Within hours of the two men returning to Washington and reporting that Iran wouldn’t budge, American and Israeli forces struck Iran and killed much of its senior leadership, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Questions immediately surfaced about whether the fundraising and the diplomacy were connected."

It's disgusting that these men are focused on MONEY while Russia is taking LIVES in Ukraine and the Gaza war rumbles on.

As a little boy, they beat the Navajo language out of him.

At boarding school, Chester Nez was punished every time he spoke the words of his own people. English only. The message was clear: who you are does not belong here.

Then came 1942. The United States was losing the Pacific war, and every military code the Americans used was being cracked by the enemy within hours. In desperation, the Marines turned to the very thing they had tried to destroy — the Navajo language.

Chester became one of the original 29 Navajo Code Talkers. Using a code built from the language he was once punished for speaking, he transmitted messages from Guadalcanal to Peleliu that the enemy never broke. Not once. Military historians would later call it the most successful code in modern warfare.

Think about that. The words they tried to erase from a child's mouth became the shield that protected thousands of American lives.

Chester carried that story quietly for decades. He passed in 2014, the last of the original 29 — but the lesson he left behind roars louder than ever: what they try to bury in us is often exactly what saves us.

Drop a ❤️ for Chester and every Code Talker who turned pain into power.
