This Bigleaf Maple was not just hollow, it basically stands on stilts. Maple commonly has a hard time with compartmentalizing decay. It appears that this tree had been topped in the past and was never able to seal over the wounds.

An Ash tree 🌳 with multiple trunks 🪵 and big root ball was caught up on an underwater 🏞️pipe. We were hired to cut 🪓 it free from the pipe. Of course, a freak July thunderstorm ⛈️ rolled through right as we got started. Sure beat the 97deg it was the day before! 😮‍💨 big thanks to my fantastic boat captain, David Hobbs. Doing an excellent job navigating.

When we first showed up to this beast, there was a 2” crack between the stems on my left and right. The canopy was 115’ across with both 3-phase lines and a service drop below. Oh and four houses!

We were hoping to simply fell this one, but the wind kept changing directions, so Jacob got to climb. He had it aimed further up the hill, and the wind still brought back this way… We made the right call not to fell this one!
