REMOVAL UPDATE: Work of Art

Bees inside the ceiling of an art gallery. Drainage spout going through stone offered an entrance. The hive was then setup in an adjacent joist bay. Very fortunate to get a jump on this. Had they expanded to the wall it could have been a nightmare of combs in the nooks and crannies of the stonework.

REMOVAL UPDATE: Something to Chew On

Client called us out for "crunching noises" along garage exterior. Turns out the whole house was wood. If you wanted to build a home for our native carpenter bees you'd be hard pressed to do better than this. The bees themselves do relatively little damage. The problems arise from their predators. Woodpeckers will happily tear all manner of new holes into your house to feast upon young carpenter bee larva!

REMOVAL UPDATE: Panelists

Glad to see more bumbles this year! This trip features more of our Common eastern bumble (Bombus Impatiens). Ladies were taking up residence in a blocked off basement window. Don't even need a vacuum for these as they are big enough to grab and toss in the box!

BEE UPDATES: Under Glass

Putting bees back into the observation hive at Richmond Library. Greeted as always by our friend, beekeeper and resident poet Amy. Did we mention she's also the head librarian? She's done some amazing work, including concerts, pollinator gardens, and a plant exchange!

If you haven't visited this library, you should.

REMOVAL UPDATE: Historic

Honeybee removal from 19th Century dormer. Been there at least a season or two. Some of these older structures can have hives whose age would be measured in centuries. Fortunately a more recent addition to the property.

REMOVAL UPDATE: Dropping Bomb(u)s

It's a special event when you get more than one bumblebee nest in less than an acre. While one didn't make it due to sun exposure its sister is buzzing with life!

REMOVAL UPDATE: Don't Go Into the Light

Monster swarm moved into the tiled ceiling of a bathroom. In a stroke of luck they were situated almost directly above an arm sized light fixture. Ladies came out of the gates hard, laying down several sheets of comb in two days. Sauna like conditions had work being done sans gear. Fortunately the bees were on board as we met minimal resistance. Pulled the trap quick to avoid smothering.

Morning check revealed minimal losses!

REMOVAL UPDATE: Great Wall

These bees would not be denied. Facility workers at a storage plant tried to seal in a hive. Workers bees rerouted their entrance to the top of an exit door.

Quite the condo going up about a bit over 6 feet of cinder block!

BEE UPDATES: How Sweet It Is

Bees are back on the roof of ! We've had honey bees flying from this Old City apiary for over 10 years. The girls took a brief hiatus for some roof work. Shane's is the oldest continuously running candy store in America. It also happens to be within a block and a half of where Lorenzo Langstroth was born. Not that we are bias, but the bee hive bon bons are amazing!

We followed our installs up with a stop at for some honeycomb ice cream. Perfect end to a day in the bee yard.
