This has been a topic of discussion in the landscape industry for years. But rarely spoken about to the public. Well here goes!! Pine needles $5.75 a bale. They have to be picked up & loaded , delivered & unloaded, then spread.
The guys doing it for $7 a bale are buying them in bulk in SC for roughly $2.50-$3.00. They bring up 800 or more at a time and target pine needles alone. Sounds like a deal till you have double the normal amount of needles down or better yet charged for more needles than you received.
After all did you go count the strings from the bales???
Pine needles. Sounds simple enough right!

Every landscaper has those piles. A stash for those times you only need a 5 gallon bucket or two of something. Found a little helper keeping my piles critter free!

The last few jobs lately has been a struggle. They are large, involve a ton of physical labor and seem like life outside the business has just been insane. Car accident last month w/deer so we’ve been down to one vehicle my work truck, 2 healthy growing boys, legal issues with my sister. The equipment maintenance alone the last 3 months has been around $9k and those were unplanned expenses. But stuff happens. At the end of the day when I walk away and look back at the jobs, im always amazed at what I can accomplish by myself. It’s crazy to me that I can’t find anyone capable enough to do anything really. Not by themselves or with help.

There is a whole generation of people how can’t dig holes…
Plant flowers/shrubs
Can’t change tires
They can’t start a gas pull start engine. My god where did we go wrong?

You can bust your ass for every client you work for and all it takes is one person having a bad day you try and ruin it. It’s not always easy to get clients to leave reviews. Once the job is done and paid for, it’s a psychological thing. It’s an extra step and as small as it sounds it can be a huge hurdle. But then you run into those that just throw them out any ol time. Thanks a lot Joshua and you’re welcome for your free quote you got last year which you wasted my time but hey I’m just the landscaper right!

Far to long now I’ve been trying to grow. Bringing people on to “help” get more done and instead of getting more work done I basically became a daycare worker/teacher.
I let guys slide with stuff I never got away with and it bit me in the ass for a couple years now.
An employer doesn’t hire people to become your care taker, banker, therapist, mommy/daddy… you’re supposed to help get more done, not slow the momentum!
Remember they got where they are before you arrived. They don’t need you… they want someone to help them do more, they are looking for someone else to take pride so they can elevate themselves as well! That seems like a fantasy today😂

I don’t know why yall do it, but it’s a great feeling when you’ve been in the work and the late days and your clients appreciate it!
I may be one man but I’m 3 when it’s time for business!

Removed several large overgrown shrubs to create better height variation and gave the remaining plantings a heavy structural trim. It's amazing how much a home's whole appearance can change with the right eye for detail — a little love goes a long way when you know what you're doing!
Such a pleasure working with this wonderful family. Their son called me "sir" more times than I could count — made me feel a little older than usual, but it also gave me real hope for the next generation. Well-mannered, respectful kids are always a reflection of great parents, and it shows.
