Raising in the Sun as a company name occurred to me one cold winter day when it was not sunny, and we were raising in the snow in upstate New York.
I started timber framing in the mid 1970’s, when my wife and I unraised, moved, repaired, and raised a 23' x 30', four bent, English style barn. Our crew consisted of relatives to disassemble the frame, and a 1949 jeep pickup and an improvised walking beam (and more relatives) to raise the frame on our own foundation. There was a scarcity of information on this way of building at that time.
Since 1988 I've subcontracted my skills to another company. I provide design, planning and cutting services.
A new direction for my business is to make and sell finished timber frames, one at a time.
This is still fun!
