Life has been SO busy lately! But I was able to get out to the garden to pick some beautiful Roma tomatoes! They’re at the stand now!

No time like me to make sauce? Make a freezer sauce pack!

-Slice Romas in half
-Pack with oregano and basil leaves (I can cut fresh for you 😊)
-Vacuum seal or put into freezer bags

Just pull a bag out of the freezer and cook with fresh garlic. Once softened, blend or use your immersion blender for a nice smooth sauce. Simmer until it thickens up a bit and you’re done!

A BIG thank you to my mom and aunt who helped to harvest today while we are super busy. 💚
Please feel free to stop by and get some beautiful veggies! If you’re in the market for green beans, please feel free to pick as many as you want!

I’m so excited that I actually had grapes to harvest this year! This is the first time the fruit has ripened before getting eaten by wildlife and it’s all thanks to reusable mesh bags. I placed the bags on each bunch and kept them on until it was time to harvest.

1 pound was turned into 1 pint of grape jam that is super tasty! 🍇

We took a break from the garden today to have a tea party with my grandma! Happy Sunday, everyone! 🥰

August = jungle season in the garden 😬 Hand weeding is impossible now, so it’s time to break out the push mower!

At this point in the season, the garden tends to take a back seat. School starts this week for the girls (and next week for me), so we’re trying to soak in all the time we can together. 🥰

I’m planning to harvest today, so be on the lookout for what we’ll have at the stand late this afternoon or tomorrow morning.

Comment below if you want notified and I’ll message you when we are stocked!

Back to school is fast approaching, so the girls and I worked on prepping some healthy “cookies” that can be used for breakfasts and/or snacks.
We ran into a problem though….not enough peanut butter! 😬 We did have some peanuts though, so we tried our hand at blending our own. It was super simple and delicious!

The girls each had some friends over yesterday, so I kept busy in the kitchen. I canned 6 pints of tomatoes and 6 pints of pickled peppers.

Did you know that canned items should be stored without the rings? This is something I just learned in the past few years. After resting for 24 hours, you should remove the rings and test for a seal by holding the jar on the edges of the flat.

This morning I thought fondly of my Great Aunt Clara, who gave me this harvesting apron a few years ago. We said farewell to her this spring, and while it was so difficult, I’m so grateful for the time we spent with her. Aunt Clara was like a bonus grandma to all of us, and she and the girls had such a special bond.

Every time I put on this apron I remember summer days sitting on her porch by the Sangamon River helping to snap beans. Later I would sit across from her at the restaurant she and my grandma owned, taking the stems off gooseberries for pie. Those moments are ones I will always treasure. 💚
