Foreman Leadership Training Class 191 is complete!

Huge thanks to this group for being dedicated to learning and improving. They're taking their new communication, and planning skills back to their crews where they'll continue to do safe quality work.

Special shoutout to Gage Treaster for being named the Leadership Award winner by his peers!

Commitment isn’t just a word. It’s what we do.

Huge shoutout to our crew (Josue Hernandez, Mario Ramirez, Raul Cervantes, Refugio Serna, and Jeff Schejbal) for embodying our core values. Day or night, they are dedicated to providing the best-in-class service for our community. Our people are the best.

It's ! Today's recipients are John Karlen, Hayden Wornstaff, & Jason Smith (Toledo, Ohio).

This crew was spotting a storm sewer before conducting a directional drill shot. While digging up the storm sewer, they came across a yellow piece of ditch ribbon. They continued to investigate and found an 8-inch plastic gas main. The issue was that there was no record of this line on the plans. The bigger issue was that this line sat right at the depth that their planned drill shot would have been. If not for their diligence and dedication to safety and quality, the drill would have ripped through that line, creating an extremely dangerous situation and disrupting residents in the area. John, Hayden, and Jason put safety first and demonstrated the importance of stop-work responsibility and of performing a detailed pre-construction jobsite walk. Great work!

Dedication and commitment can take you a long way.

When Al Degraffenreid started with Miller Pipeline as a Laborer, he had little experience in the industry.

Through hard work, a willingness to learn and a commitment to his career, Al progressed to his current role as a General Foreman, where he now helps lead the next generation of utility construction professionals.

Al’s journey is a great example of the career growth that can come from putting in the work and taking advantage of opportunities along the way.

Commitment and dedication is a mindset. It’s what helped Al Defraffenreid work his way up from a laborer with little experience to a General Foreman focused on making decisions every day.

You can make underground construction your career, it just takes hard work and the right frame of mind. Want to do that at Miller Pipeline? Link in bio?

💙 Mental health is part of safety, too.

The construction industry has one of the highest su***de rates of any industry in the United States.

We can all play a role in changing that. Start by helping break down the stigma around mental health:

👂 Listen without judgment.
💬 Make it okay to talk about mental health.
🤝 Check in on your coworkers and teammates.
🫶 Encourage people to seek support when they need it.

Sometimes, creating a safer workplace starts with simply being willing to have the conversation.

A Miller Electrical crew was going over their daily safety huddle with their hydro-vac subcontractor (XPose) when the group heard sirens just down the street. They checked social media and learned that a plumbing contractor had experienced a trench collapse.

The crew ran down the block and saw the plumber was buried up to his face in a 12-foot trench, with police attempting to hand-dig around the worker's mouth to get him some air. The Miller and Xpose crew asked whether the emergency crews wanted to use the hydro-vac on site.

Our group retrieved the hydro vac and worked with emergency personnel in the trench on where to place the end tube. The hydro vac removed enough material to get the plumber out of the trench alive and breathing with a lacerated spleen and seven broken ribs. Emergency personnel praised the Miller and XPose crews for their quick thinking, saying that the man likely would have been paralyzed or dead if not for their actions.

💙 What a great day in the community!

Our teammates Mike Seifert and Les Wilson recently had the opportunity to spend time with the wonderful group at Pathways Behavioral Clinic, which supports children on the autism spectrum.

The day was filled with fun, learning and plenty of opportunities to explore the world of construction and natural gas. 👷‍♂️🔥

A huge thank you to the Pathways staff for welcoming us and giving us the chance to spend time with such an incredible group of young people.

We’re always grateful for opportunities to connect, share what we do and support the communities we serve.

💙 A simple check-in can make a difference.

This Construction Su***de Prevention Week, let's make a commitment to look out for the people around us.

A text. A phone call. A simple "How are you doing?" can open the door to a conversation that someone may really need.

You don't have to have all the answers. Sometimes, being willing to listen is enough to let someone know they're not alone.
