Proper tree installation is critical to long-term structural integrity and establishment success. 🌳
Per industry best practices here in Arizona, we always remove the nursery stake at time of installation. Nursery stakes are intended strictly for transport and retail display — not field support. Leaving them in place can restrict trunk caliper development and compromise structural strength.
Our installation protocol includes:
• Removing all nursery staking materials
• Installing two opposing support stakes outside the root ball
• Securing with flexible ties to allow controlled trunk movement
• Ensuring vertical alignment and proper root ball stabilization
This method promotes stronger trunk taper, improved root anchorage, and healthier long-term performance in desert conditions.
