Underlayment is the thin layer installed between your subfloor and your finished flooring, and it does a lot of work you never see.

🔇 It reduces sound transmission between floors, which matters a lot in two-story homes.

🌡️ It adds a layer of thermal insulation, making floors feel warmer underfoot in cooler months.

🦶 It creates a softer, more comfortable feel underfoot, especially with hard surface flooring.

Skipping or cutting corners on underlayment is one of the most common ways a flooring project ends up feeling "off" after installation.

Patterned tile is one of the most commitment-worthy flooring decisions you can make. Here's how to know if it's right for you.

✅ It works best in smaller, contained spaces like kitchens, bathrooms, and entryways where the pattern doesn't overwhelm.

✅ Keeping everything else in the room simple lets the floor be the star without the space feeling chaotic.

✅ The pattern reads differently at different scales. Always look at a larger sample or a full layout photo before committing.

If your living room feels a little "off" but you can't figure out why, the issue might be your rug placement. 🤔

Here are a few quick rules that make a real difference:

🛋️ All front legs of your sofa and chairs should sit ON the rug, not float beside it.

📐 Leave at least 12 to 18 inches of bare floor visible between the rug edge and the walls.

🔲 In open floor plans like this one, use rugs to define zones. Each seating or dining area gets its own rug, letting the hardwood flow between them.

🎨 Layering two rugs adds texture and depth without requiring a bigger rug.

The floors and the rug should feel like they were planned together. When they do, the whole room clicks. 💡
