Why do we use diamond sanding before polishing CMU block walls?

This week, our crew is moving into one of the most important stages of the process—diamond sanding.

Diamond sanding is a specialized process that uses industrial diamond abrasives to refine the surface of the CMU (concrete masonry unit) block. This step helps remove imperfections, smooth the surface, and prepare the walls for the polishing process.

No two CMU block walls are exactly alike. Differences in texture, mortar joints, and the natural characteristics of the block require experienced operators, specialized equipment, and attention to detail to achieve a consistent architectural finish.

It all starts with proper preparation.

Our crew is currently preparing CMU (concrete masonry unit) block walls for the polishing process on a commercial project.

Before polishing can begin, the walls must first be ground and thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, dust, mortar residue, and other construction debris. These critical preparation steps help create a clean, consistent surface before the polishing process begins.

Polishing CMU block walls is a specialized process that requires the right equipment, skilled operators, and attention to detail. Every stage—from grinding and cleaning to the final polish—plays an important role in achieving a high-quality architectural finish.
