All around our area mills have closed and more are closing in the Southern US. Pine is a renewable resource. You grow them just like any crop and replant after harvest. You get pennies for pulp now compared to just a few years ago. I am at one of the big box stores and all of the lumber is from another country. Why are we not keeping a strong lumber / logging industry in our country?
On a positive note, the 8x8’s we use for our pole barns from Owen’s Supply are Georgia bred supporting our states timber industry!

This is one of roughly 5 jobs we have done for this repeat customer! Built a code compliant cover over his fuel station. Notice how we ran the tank vent well above the ridge of the structure. You never want those fumes vented under the roof of the pole barn where they can be trapped. I personally have over 40 years experience in the building industry and have learned much about being code compliant and safety. This was another awesome Owen’s Supply pole barn!

40x60x16 on telephone poles that were no less than 14” diameter! This will be here for decades. You should ask us about the new post protections we have that will add years to the life of your Pole Barn. Justin and the guys did a great job today! We all left home about 5 am and got this beast up today! Super happy customer in Alma! Thanks Mr Rigby!

Just a side-by-side comparison with 2 x 6 Perlins. On one side, you have a standard number two that has a lot of wane in the wood with larger knots. It’s appearance isn’t that nice?
Then on the other side, you have the 2 x 6 Perlins we use. Now ours are still a number two board but they are what is referred to as a number two prime in the wood industry. It’s more of an appearance board. What it boils down to is it looks a lot nicer. One of the many ways we try to be the better choice for our customers.
