Michigan's heating season is here, and it's a good time to give your heating system some attention.

At Cardinal, we’ve seen what can happen when a fire starts at home. We’re here when families need help putting things back together, but a little prevention can sometimes keep that phone call from ever being necessary.

Before things get really cold:
• Have heating equipment professionally inspected
• Check smoke and CO alarms
• Keep anything flammable away from heating equipment
• Don't ignore unusual smells, sounds, or leaks

A few minutes of prevention now can help keep your home and family safer all winter.

October is Fire Safety Month, and at Cardinal, this one hits close to home.

We’ve seen firsthand what a fire can do to a home, a business, and the people who have to pick up the pieces afterward. While we’re here to help restore properties after a fire, we’d much rather see one prevented in the first place.

A few simple reminders:
• Check smoke and CO alarms regularly
• Keep electrical cords and outlets in good condition
• Have heating systems properly maintained
• Keep flammable materials away from heat sources
• Make sure your family knows what to do in an emergency

Fire prevention starts with the small things we do every day.
