We recognize that NFPA 70E currently allows for escorted persons to cross the LAB, but is this allowance outdated and is there a justified circumstance for applying this practice? We have supported many organizations in all sorts of different industries and have yet to come across a good, justified application of this practice. We know that there is a possibility that such a justified condition could exist where a person has not and cannot been trained, and must cross the LAB for inspection or some other purpose, but with the improvements in cameras, maintenance modes of equipment, and improved practices of establishing electrically safe work conditions, does this practice still have justified examples that we may not have come across? Please share your thoughts…

I know that while providing training, it appears that students at have a clear understanding of the electrical safety boundaries and the requirements of each, but exam data has shown confusion remains for most newly qualified persons. Feedback has revealed that it is difficult to remember the difference between the Limited and Restricted Approach Boundaries because they sound the same.
This has led us to question whether there are similar challenges with other terms.
In an IEEE paper published last year, we identified some significant confusion between the terms “working on” and “avoid contact”.
Do you have any electrical safety terms you’ve run into challenges with for yourself or other workers that may not clearly communicate their intended meaning?
Feel free to comment or message us directly. Please share your thought!

When was the last time you had to apply the Es**rt rule for crossing the Limited Approach Boundary of an electrical hazard? Is there a credible reason today that the escorted person cannot also be trained and qualified, or the equipment be placed in an electrically safe work condition prior to access?

Had a great week training out of the ElecTrain Training Center where we were able to work on multiple EV platforms with several hands-on devices, tools, meters, and PPE options. Thank you to Kiley Taylor of Megawatt Training to flying in to assist and participate in the performance sessions.
If you’re looking for EV certification training and only have a few people to qualify, sending them to our facility is a great solution, but if you have a larger training need we are more than happy to come to your facility to do the training as well!

ElecTrain was happy to join GE Vernova this week to evaluate some high voltage equipment, develop safe work practices and strategies, and provide training to the researchers and technicians working on the projects. Kiley Taylor of Megawatt Training was there as well to share his unique expertise and support. Together, the trip was a success and we look forward to the future endeavors with GE Vernova and hopefully other GE organizations down the road as well!

Just wrapped up yet another EV Technician Certification course for Scout Motors in partnership with TUV SUD! ElecTrain is happy to be involved on the front line with so many organizations so that we can bring our knowledge and experience to share with you and your technicians.
I was asked this week if ElecTrain does NFPA 70E training as well? The name is ElecTrain because it stands for Electrical Training, not Elect Rain, Electrical Trains, El Ectrain, or any other interpretation. 😂
YES! Of course we teach NFPA 70E and we would be happy to provide that training to any organization out there that is unhappy with their current training or those who are looking for the first time. We can help with your safety program development, audits, arc flash evaluations… anything you need to have a safe and successful workforce.
