This question is common, and the answer is "depends". It depends on the type of material that you are using, the type of glue, and even the condition/type of subfloor you have. It sounds complicated, but it's quite simple.
By using Laminate or SPC vinyl, we usually don't need to use glue for install the floor. We say that it is a floating installation. In this case, after setting the pieces together, the floor is theoretically released for use. Often, after finishing the floor of some ambiance, we start the finalizations as baseboard and transitions. This way, we return the furniture and leave the local ready before asap.
When we install real wood or engineered wood flooring, we must add glue in the process. This means more time! Some glue has a quick drying time, but others we have to wait a day or more to be completed dry.
Does the type of sub-floor interfere? Yes, it's not only the preparation of the sub-floor that matters, but the type of material used in too. Considering that the sub-floor is already good for install the new floor, the material used in it can still interfere. If the last layer of subfloor is cement, concrete, or something similar, we only use glue for installation. In this process, we must wait the glue dries (or be dry enough) before do anything else. We can't afford a loose piece of wood on the floor, not fitted or with a gap. If the sub-floor last layer is made of plywood or wood, in addition to using glue, we can nail the wooden boards to the sub-floor. With this the floor is βstrongerβ and we can release a little early the ambiance.
It is very important to mention that the installer is used to stepping on the floor during installation and therefore already knows the tricks needed to walk on it. Some places even the installer have to avoid walking. In addition, on site we have hazardous materials for your safety, such as nails, tools, loose material left, slippery floors, cutting machines, electricity, among others. Do not enter the installation environment without consulting the installer and avoid walking in it.
