Situated in the Northeast, this pool house required higher snow load considerations. To accommodate, storm braces were built into the corners of the building to push the lateral loads down into the foundation. Wrapped with nailers for siding and outfitted with privacy walls and simple lighting, this community pool house embodies thoughtful architectural planning that serves the structure and its occupants.

The solid sawn Douglas fir timber frame in this community pool bath house clear spans the room 40 feet using two bridge trusses that form the ridge lines. A primary and secondary rafter plate work in tandem to support the rafters, creating a vaulted interior. Dormers and cupolas allow light into the space and allow improved ventilation in an otherwise damp space.

The newly-built Holy Trinity Chapel ornate detail was designed into the timber frame itself. Refined details like stop chamfers and engraved crosses on the tapered beam ends turn a double hammer beam truss into a spiritual work of art creating an intimate sanctuary that feels like it's been here for centuries.

The Holy Trinity Chapel stands proud amid the New England forest, accentuated by its steep roof pitch and gothic arches. The gabled entryway welcomes patrons into the lofty sanctuary, framed by double hammer beam trusses.

Small details make a big difference in the visual design of a timber frame home. Haunched housing of the timber connections is a visual distinguisher that also serves to disguise timber shrinkage as the wood dries over time. The solid sawn Douglas fir timbers are connected using traditional mortise and tenon connections, and the pegs are left proud to showcase its craftsmanship.

The visual simplicity of traditional timber framing let's personal interior design choices shine. The six bents of this lakeside home craft unique open spaces, from the living room to the loft, with a cupola and silo added to evoke an historic farm appearance.

Hammer beam trusses use tie rods to resolve tension in the frame. To make this common engineering design aesthetically unique, two tie rods flank each beam. The steel plates were cut to match the post bases and other metal work in the building and powder coated black for a consistent design.

Nestled in the gateway to the Smokey Mountains is The Tuck and Table - a family style restaurant overlooking the Tuckasegee River. An idea years in the making, the building began to take shape when the timber frame was raised, set in place and anchored to the cement wall that stands between the neighboring building. Structural Insulated Panels make up the roof and walls and a long roof monitor lets natural light into the heart of the building. Patrons enjoy a cozy restaurant, delicious food, and a great view.

Timber frame shed dormers and porch awnings define the exterior of this expansive mountain home. To protect from moisture, the beams are tapered at the end to avoid water absorption through the end grain. The dark stain protects the wood, increasing the lifespan of the timbers.

The hybrid home project showcases a vaulted timber frame great room shaped by king post trusses and common purlins. Structurally insulated panels (SIP) give shape to the walls and ceiling, providing rigid structure and superior R-value. The result is a beautiful and energy-efficient home.
