SpeedBlock CMU is cast and precut in our facilities, eliminating cutting an

d waste at your build site. Additionally, the structural wall can be 300% stronger than traditional CMU construction. By eliminating on-site casting and cutting, or hand building masonry blocks walls, labor hours can be reduced by up to 80%, and cleanup at the end of the project virtually eliminated. SpeedBlock is rapidly becoming a material of choice for contractors, developers and builders throughout California and Nevada. In 1979, Erik Garfinkel started Palo Alto Concrete & Construction. By working closely with customers to understand their needs, the company grew to play a role in building thousands of concrete structures. In 1997, he developed a new hollow block wall (CMU) system that provided exceptional strength and ease of installation. Erik partnered with John MacMillan nearly ten years ago, with their investing millions into R&D getting the product ready to bring to market. The product caught on rapidly in Nevada and California, where more than 800,000 square feet were used in the construction of retail buildings, casinos, commercial buildings, industrial warehouses, sound walls, school gymnasiums and churches. For more than four decades, the leaders of SpeedBlock have worked closely with corporate site managers, owners, builders and contractors. From our CEO, Erik Garfinkel: "Masic and his colleagues wondered whether they were instead caused by the Romans using quicklime in their mix before setting it with water. The widely available white powder, made from burning limestone, would have reacted with water during mixing, sparking a chemical reaction that produced significant amounts of heat. This would have prevented the lime from fully dissolving, resulting in the lime lumps."

Quicklime may have made material more durable than its modern counterparts
