Southern fox squirrels (Formerly Sherman’s) used to be a fairly common site in pockets around Tampa Bay. Especially where they would often thieve snacks from golfers that called them “monkey squirrels”. Larger than most squirels, these guys aree known to climb the legs of golfers, looking for a treat.

I was watching what seemed to be the last ones, living in two trees along a cow pasture in Odessa, FL….but it’s been a few years since I’ve seen them.

I was happy to find a couple in the same general area living in the tree line of a new housing development.

Do any of my Tampa Bay friends still see these dudes around?
