🌧️ With the severe rainfall and flooding throughout our area, we want to remind homeowners of something extremely important when it comes to their septic systems!

🚨 DO NOT PUMP OUT YOUR SEPTIC TANK WHILE THE GROUND IS SATURATED OR FLOODED! 🚨

When we experience excessive rainfall, the groundwater level (water table) rises significantly. This creates tremendous pressure around underground septic tanks.

Pumping out your septic tank under these conditions can cause it to FLOAT or PUSH OUT OF THE GROUND!

Yes, this can happen even with heavy CONCRETE septic tanks! When the water inside the tank is removed, the pressure from the surrounding groundwater can actually lift the tank out of the ground, potentially causing thousands of dollars in damage to your septic system, plumbing, and drain field.

✅ WHAT SHOULD YOU DO INSTEAD?

💧 CONSERVE WATER! This is the single most important thing you can do right now.

🚫 Avoid doing laundry unless absolutely necessary.

🚫 Limit showers and avoid taking long showers or baths.

🚫 Avoid running the dishwasher excessively.

🚫 Minimize unnecessary toilet flushing and water usage.

🚫 Keep vehicles and heavy equipment off saturated drain fields.

⚠️ If your septic system is backing up or draining slowly, pumping the tank may NOT solve the problem!

When the ground is saturated, your drain field may have nowhere to discharge wastewater. Pumping the tank can provide temporary relief in certain situations, but it can also create serious risks when groundwater levels are high.

The best thing you can do is reduce your water usage and allow the groundwater levels to recede.
