🚫 STOP RELYING ON THESE FAUCET COVERS 🚫

As a plumber with Plumbing Services of the Ozarks, I see this every year.

These hard plastic faucet covers give a false sense of protection. They might look insulated, but during real cold snaps, they don’t prevent frozen pipes.

Here’s why 👇
• They don’t add heat
• Wind still gets behind them
• They fail during extended freezes

What most people don’t realize:
On a properly installed outside faucet (frost-free sillcock), the water shuts off at least 10 inches back inside the house, usually in a crawl space or basement.

That’s why disconnecting your hose is critical.
If the hose stays connected, the water can’t drain and stays inside the faucet — right where it can freeze and split the pipe behind the wall.

I’ve removed plenty of these covers after a freeze and still found broken faucets behind the wall.

✅ What actually works:
• Disconnect hoses
• Shut off and drain lines
• Install frost-free faucets
• Proper insulation and air sealing

If $5 covers really worked, plumbers wouldn’t stay busy every winter and spring.
