Weโre seeing reports again of ๐๐๐๐๐ roofing companies going door-to-door telling homeowners they have โstorm damageโ and suggesting they can get a new roof through insurance with the homeowner โonly paying the deductible.โ
If someone shows up at your door saying your roof has storm damageโฆ

If you weren't already concerned about your roof and didn't call them for an inspection, don't feel pressured to make a decision at your front door.
If you think your roof may have damage:
๐ Do your own research. Look for established, reputable local roofing companies with a proven history in your community.
๐ Make the call yourself. Choose who you want inspecting your home rather than automatically allowing someone who showed up unsolicited onto your property.
โ
Verify their license and insurance. Florida's Department of Financial Services specifically recommends doing this before allowing a contractor to inspect your roof.
๐ Get a professional inspection. Ask them to show you what they found, explain whether it actually requires repair or replacement, and provide documentation.
โ๏ธ Get a second โ or even third โ opinion. Florida consumer guidance recommends obtaining at least three detailed estimates from licensed, insured contractors.
๐ฉ Be cautious of pressure. Someone telling you that you need to act immediately, file an insurance claim, or that insurance will โbuy you a new roofโ should be a reason to slow down โ not speed up. Florida lists pressure to file a claim and promises to waive a deductible among contractor-fraud red flags.
๐ Don't sign something you don't fully understand. Take your time, read the paperwork and know exactly what you're agreeing to.
A legitimate roofing inspection should help you understand the condition of your roof , not pressure you into an insurance claim.
And if your roof doesn't need to be replaced? A reputable roofer should be willing to tell you that, too.
