There’s nothing quite like the feeling of walking into your kitchen late at night and hearing that dreaded “drip-drip” sound—or worse, seeing a puddle. We recently had a call from a local family who was dealing with a major pipe burst right before a big weekend gathering. It’s moments like these where we really love what we do. They left us such a kind note saying they appreciated the quick response and the fact that we didn't leave a mess behind. Knowing we could turn a stressful night into a "no big deal" situation for them is why we show up every day. Huge thanks to everyone who trusts Dan Martin Plumbing with their home! 🛠️💧

Dealing with a slow-draining sink? Before you call us out, try the 'Baking Soda & Vinegar' method. It’s much gentler on your pipes than those store-bought liquid cleaners that can actually corrode your plumbing over time. Pour half a cup of baking soda down the drain, followed by half a cup of vinegar. Let it sit for 15 minutes, then flush it with hot water. It’s a great way to clear out minor soap scum and hair buildup. If the drain is still stubborn after a couple of tries, that’s when it’s time to bring in the pros! 🚰✨

Your garbage disposal isn't a trash can, even if it sounds like one! 🚫 To keep it running smoothly and smelling fresh, avoid putting fibrous veggies like celery, coffee grounds, or grease down the drain. If it suddenly stops working, check the 'reset' button on the bottom of the unit under the sink first. It’s a tiny red button that saves a lot of unnecessary service calls! For the stubborn jams, we’re always here to help. 🛠️

Quick question: Do you know exactly where your main water shut-off valve is located? 🔍 In a plumbing emergency, like a burst pipe, every second counts. Usually, it’s located where the water line enters the house—check near the street-side wall, in the basement, or the garage. Go find it today, make sure it’s not rusted shut, and show everyone in the house how to turn it clockwise to stop the flow. It’s the best way to prevent major water damage!

Is your water heater making a strange knocking or popping sound lately? 🔊 It’s usually just sediment buildup at the bottom of the tank. You can actually extend your heater’s life by 'flushing' it once a year to clear out that debris. Simply turn off the power or gas, hook up a garden hose to the drain valve, and let the sediment wash away. It keeps your unit efficient and your showers hot! 🚿 Need a hand with a full system check? Give us a shout.

Ever faced a toilet clog and felt that moment of panic? 🚽 Before you call us, try the 'bell' technique. Make sure there’s enough water to cover the plunger cup, create a tight seal, and give it a few firm, vertical thrusts. It's all about the suction, not just the push! If it still won't budge after a few tries, the blockage might be further down the line—and that’s where we come in.

That 'drip, drip, drip' isn't just annoying—it can waste hundreds of gallons of water a year. 💧 Often, a leaky faucet is just caused by a worn-out O-ring or a simple washer. If you're feeling handy, you can turn off the water under the sink, take the handle apart, and swap the seals yourself. But if you see water leaking from the base of the fixture or inside the cabinet, it might be a deeper issue. We're happy to stop the leak for good! 🔧

When was the last time you flushed your water heater? Most manufacturers recommend doing this once a year to remove sediment buildup. Over time, minerals settle at the bottom of the tank, making your heater work harder, costing you more in energy, and eventually causing the tank to fail prematurely. To do it safely: turn off the power or gas, hook a garden hose to the drain valve, and run the water until it's clear. If you’re uncomfortable doing this yourself, we’re happy to handle the maintenance for you to ensure your hot showers stay hot for years to come! 🚿🔥

Think your toilet is running but you aren't quite sure? Those 'silent' leaks can waste hundreds of gallons of water a day and spike your utility bill. Here’s a quick DIY trick: Drop a few drops of food coloring into the toilet tank (not the bowl!) and wait about 20 minutes without flushing. If the color seeps into the bowl, you’ve got a leak, likely caused by a worn-out flapper. It’s a small part that makes a huge difference in your monthly budget. Have you checked yours lately? 🚽💧

Is your garbage disposal starting to smell a bit... funky? 🤢 Before you reach for harsh chemicals, try this simple pro tip: Toss in a few ice cubes and some lemon peels, then run the disposal with cold water. The ice helps knock off stubborn food debris from the blades, and the lemon provides a fresh scent. Remember, never put coffee grounds, eggshells, or potato peels down there—those are the main culprits for clogs we see every week. Keep it running smoothly and avoid that emergency service call! 🍋❄️
