Every trip out to the pool goes through the same door, and it shows.

The door is the single highest-wear part of a cage. Hinges sag, the closer gives up, the kick panel takes a beating from feet and dogs, and the roller on a slider wears flat until the whole thing drags.

Replace worn hinges and closers
Sliding door rollers and tracks
Pet doors fitted into an existing panel

From now until about May there are no daily storms to schedule around, the frame stays dry, and a rescreen done now is the one you are still enjoying next summer.

It is also when everyone else figures that out. October and November are our two busiest months. Booking now is a different experience to booking in mid-November.

Your screen did not fail because you were rough with it. It failed because mesh has a shelf life.

Florida sun breaks fiberglass down from the day it goes in. The mesh goes chalky, then stiff, then a shoulder-bump opens a hole. Ten to fifteen years is typical here; shaded cages last longer, west-facing panels go first.

How to tell it is age rather than damage:

Chalky or stiff to the touch
Sagging through the middle of the panel
Small tears that keep spreading from the same spot

If you are ticking those boxes, replacing beats patching.

Two torn panels does not mean you need a full rescreen. It usually means you need two panels.

When we say patch it: the rest of the mesh still has tension, the spline is seated, and the damage is impact rather than age.

When we say rescreen it: the mesh is chalky, panels sag in the middle, and every repair pulls the neighbouring panel loose. At that point patching is a subscription.

We will tell you which one you are actually looking at. Not the expensive one by default.

Same labour, same price, three very different results.

Fiberglass — the standard. Best airflow, best visibility, cheapest to replace when a branch finds it.

No-see-um — a much tighter weave. If you are getting bitten on the lanai at dusk by things you cannot see, this is the fix. Slightly less airflow.

Pet-resistant — heavier gauge that stands up to claws and a dog that leans. Worth it on the bottom panels only, usually.

The mesh is the only variable. Pick for how you actually use the space, not for what is cheapest.

That sounds like a small thing until you have had the other version — a salesman on Tuesday, a crew you have never met on Friday, and nobody who can answer why the quote and the work do not match.

Three tests you can do in about ten seconds each.

1. Push it. If the mesh sags and stays sagged, the tension is gone.
2. Pinch it. If it tears at a touch, UV has already finished it.
3. Look at the track. If the spline is creeping out of the channel, the panel is on its way out.

Any one of those and it is time. Two of them and patching is throwing money at it.
