Why did this basement floor fail? 👇

This homeowner had luxury vinyl plank in the basement that was starting to buckle and lift. Two things were working against it: the LVP wasn't installed correctly, and moisture was coming up through the concrete slab. Vinyl plank sitting directly on a damp slab traps that moisture with nowhere to go, and eventually the floor gives up.

Here's how we fixed it the right way:

1️⃣ Pulled out the failing LVP and cleaned the slab down to bare concrete.
2️⃣ Installed a Schluter DITRA membrane over the slab. DITRA does two big jobs here: the channels on the underside let slab moisture escape as v***r instead of getting trapped under the floor, and it "uncouples" the tile from the concrete so the slab can move a little without cracking the tile above it.
3️⃣ Set tile in a Versailles pattern (that's the mixed-size layout with big and small pieces that looks like an old European courtyard) for a finished look that will hold up to basement conditions for the long haul.

The lesson: basements are a different animal. Before you put any floor down on a slab, you have to know what's going on with moisture, and you have to pick a system that's built for it.

Homeowner had a large tree branch crash down on their deck and pergola and cause some serious damage. We are able to get this rebuilt quickly and put back together so the homeowner could enjoy the fall on their deck with their grandkids.

Wrapping up a custom cabinet install for Honda at the Legends.

As part of a bigger job we completed for them, here, we installed insulation, drywall, paint and a 13 foot custom laminate cabinet.

Started demo of this 400sq/f kitchen in Overland Park. We packed all their items into storage bins, secured the rest of the home from debris and dust and got to work.
We removed tile, the old waterproofing system, plywood underlayment and cabinets.

 One thing that sets us apart is how we demo. We protect the home and appliances, we use shop vacs to contain dust and we clean as we go in order to keep the home tidy as we remodel.

Being without a kitchen for a couple of weeks is already difficult, but having messy construction debris everywhere is a non negotiable for us.

Can’t wait to deliver a dream kitchen to this homeowner!

This home only has one bathroom, so the tub needed to stay. But, it needed a serious upgrade. So we did just that!

Most people walk into a finished kitchen and see cabinets.
