This , Massman Construction reflects on the important role that inland rivers and intracoastal waterways play in creating a more sustainable way to work, and on our role in constructing them.
Not only do we build durable infrastructure along the rivers, but our floating fleet also travels them — barge transport is a necessity for our work. Inland and intracoastal waterways allow heavy materials to move with lower emissions, less energy, and less land impact than other modes of transportation. A single barge can replace several trucks, minimizing environmental footprint. On the water, efficient lock and dam systems improve navigation and reduce delays for commercial vessels, and river terminals facilitate the transfer of goods from road, rail, and pipeline to barge, resulting in lower fuel consumption and less pollution.
Inland and intracoastal waterways are the backbone of sustainable infrastructure. As we look to the future, investing in these vital resources is key to ensuring continued resilience for generations.
